shareMatt Smith (an unconventional looking lead actor if there ever was one) was a great choice for this. He puts you on edge as the big revelation draws near, I can't think any of the other Doctor [Who] actors giving a more unsettling and against-type performance (except maybe Christopher Eccleston but he never really felt like the Doctor to me because I'd already seen him in too many other things)
I'd like to see what he does with Patrick Bateman in the new American Psycho musical.
I think Matt Smith suited the part, simply because (and without meaning to offend anybody) he looks like he has special needs. And the character, Tommy, quite obviously had some sort of social disorder, probably from growing up in a very isolated environment. Can't say I'm a fan of Matt Smith. He's a bit too cheesy for me, but it worked.
shareActually, I think this type of role is exactly what works well for Matt Smith.
Even though he's an adult man, he has a child-like, eccentric quality to him that works well in a story like this.
You can see watching a movie like this why he was suited for the role of The Doctor.
its because he is that awesome of an actor and people forget Pre Doctor Who
shareI think Matt Smith works because he's kind of weird & alien-looking. LOL. I'm not trying to be insulting, he just has a weird look, and it worked for this film.
I can't understand your crazy moon language.
I think he can act, but he was a terrible choice for this film.. just based on how he looks. He looks older than Eva Green, and I can suspend my disbelief enough to imagine that Rebecca hardly ages at all during those 20 years (and raising a kid?? double HA.), but it's absurd that Tommy would look older than Rebecca and call her mum. Also, his unique look does not suit the story's mood imo.
They should have chosen a younger looking actor, more boyish and not just boyishly mischievous. Matt Smith looks way way older than the boy he is supposed to portray from his face to his body.

I agree. And it's a pity that in playing both versions of Tommy he didn't see how the child played the role. Tommy the ten year old was quiet, thoughtful etc in both cases, Tommy the young man was hyper, ADHD, words spilling out, talking fast about his interests, socially awkward in an Aspergers way. It is hard to believe that either the first or second boy Tommys grew up into the Matt Smith Tommys.
I also agree he was too old for the role, they should have got someone who looked twenty, not late 20s. I have always thought in all his roles he has a very old face for a young man.
I prefer Imaginality to reality.
