Simon Pegg called the alien voice a 'Lamp'. What is that?

A lamp is just a artificial light source, like a desk lamp. So he was referring to it as in it's bright light.

Does anyone know what "artificial" means? I keep seeing the word in this thread, yet nobody offers lexicographical clarity on that matter. It's frustrating.

OP, I'll answer your question seriously. He referred to the alien as such because a "lamp" is an artificial light source, not unlike a desk lamp, with which you may be familiar. So, my interpretation -- and I realize there may be others -- is he was saying the alien was like a bright light.
