Very good until the robots

I watched this film knowing literally nothing about it other than simon pegg was in it. It had a great start with some well written characters. During the first part of the movie it was entirely character driven and could have gone somewhere interesting. Instead it seems like Pegg and Frost were given a big budget and decided they had to spend it all. Changing the film from a character driven story to an action driven film runined it. From the point the robots are introduced this film is terrible.

It's a shame, it could have gone somewhere fun and interesting.

Yes, the film was much better before the robots showed up (actually a great reflection of MY OWN friends). I was kinda hoping it might veer off toward another similar film- Scorsese's 'After Hours', where anything that can go wrong, does...

Totally agree. That robot idea came out of nowhere and made no sense.I wish they could have gone another direction with the film.

What would have happened instead though? Like can someone give an example of some events that would have happened in place of robots? What would be driving them to keep doing the pub crawl instead of the reason in the film? And where would the tension come from in place of trying to "fit in" with the robots?

These arent rhetorical questions, i'm geniunely curious how people expect the drama to be maintained if the sci-fi element was removed.

Also, keep in mind that all of that original character piece stuff WAS intact the whole time, and the robots/sci-fi stuff was meant to accentuate it, as a comic metaphor. The OP is talking as if the movie starts out as character driven and then abandons all that turns into 100% Terminator sci-fi, which obviously isnt the case

It was good

Yep. It worked well for the first two but not this one.

I liked this movie very much, but I would put Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead above this one. In those two, the "special twist" does not appear suddenly but they are hinting it since the beginning of those movies. Here Aliens/Robots came out of nowhere without proper explanation. Still, it was quite enjoyable movie - 7/10.

Pardon me, English is my second language - Dr. Schultz and ME.

you should have at least some idea wether you are stting down to watch a rom com or a war film , to avoid that kind of jarring disappointment.
