4.4 rating?
Come on guys it's way better than that! I've seen movies at 5.0 that have been worse than this one so I really think it deserves way more than a 4.4 rating!

shareIt got a generous 4.4.
The issue with this movie is that it had potential but then the characters end up doing the stupidest things that have become cliched in horror movies and even spoofed in the SCREAM franchise.
The audience already knows all the tricks so you can't just do the same old thing ie dark house lights go out, kids moving about really slowly-- never looking to turn the lights back on, flashlight dies, creaky noises, moving shadows etc.
But'Cha Are, Blanche! Ya'Are In That Chair!
Mostly through watching it now. One of the dullest larger budget horror movies that I've seen in recent years. I'd give it about a 3-4 only because the production value/acting aren't all that bad.
shareI rated it a 5. It's not that bad, but it wasn't something I would watch more often.
Those people that rated it a 1 or 2 should wait for SAW Part 10 or something.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
Also, it's about expectation if a studio gives a push to a movie like they did this, and it doesn't live up to it. I gave it a 5 as well because the idea was there but execution wasn't.
shareI gave it a 4. Some good production values, but the story was derivative and uninteresting. Nothing said "let's do something special here". 4 might have been generous, but generosity is the core of my being.
the score was boosted by about 1600 voters so far who scored Ouija higher than they scored Casablanca. Way to go, crew!
WARNING!

4.4 is way too high.
shareI disagree. People have a preconceived idea that Quija (yesyes boards) Wee Ya but it is ok to pronounced the J if you like. English speaking people always do. They shouldn't be sold as a game or toy but anything for money. I have used them many times. The story underlying this movie was a good one. Yes it was shadows and bump in the night but it was hardly as bad as some are saying. I have watched hundreds of movies and this one wasn't that bad but if you are bored that easily, I feel badly for you and the rest who posted. People are not going to watch a movie that goes on and on going into the life stories of these characters. They are friends in High School. One found the board and got obsessed by it and later possessed by something or someone. Anyone who went to see the movie had to know it would be something like that. I have seen numerous movies where the center piece is a spirit board and they are all different but in the end it is a jump out at you scary type of movie with something haunting where the characters are or some of the characters. The movie had very good young actors I have seen in various other films or on television. It was cast very well. Some people are jaded and think they know it all. The ending of the movie was fine. Go watch Babadook. It was made about the same time as this movie. It's an Australian horror story. It won the same as Best Motion picture in the US Oscar awards in Australia. There they pay attention to Scifi and Horror unlike the US. They have it on Netflix. It's a good horror movie and I would say this one is on the same level. I don't agree with anyone who posted here or in the ratings. I don't know what you expect but I have watched 100s of them and this one was pretty good but it was geared to a teen/young adult audience. They watch these types of movies except for me of course since I am a senior and not a young senior. I watch them all.
shareI gave it a 4, so anything higher than that seems generous to me. Movie stunk out loud and was obviously butchered in the reshoot process. Audiences aren't stupid and can pick up on things like that. Hence the low score it deserves.
shareShould be minus 4.4
HARLEYS R4 YUPPIES
(my bumper sticker)
I agree that it's not really that bad of a movie.
It's a perfectly decent example of mild horror... not a lot of gore or violence, but not full of extraneous nonsense either. And it does at least attempt to create some atmosphere, which is something a lot of horror just ignores.
I watched this back to back with the remake of 'The Evil Dead'... and in comparison 'Ouija' came across as the much better movie. Much more sedate, and less gory, sure... but not nearly as dumb in its writing either.
'Ouija' could have been far, far worse. As it is it feels like a more restrained relative of the Insidious movies.
Is it possible to rate a film below 0/10
I would walk through broken glass and have my balls dragged through sandpaper just to rate it below 0
