If you were 16

who would you be more interested in someone like David or someone like Graham?

"Objection noted."

At 16? Oh, David, most definately. He was a smooth talker, attractive, and very exciting. In fact, at 16, I dated an older 'man' (late-college age), with my parent's permission. Now, (much older, LOL), I would choose Graham. Graham seemed to actually exhibit some of the 'class' and 'knowledge' that David tried so desperately to exhude. He also, to some extent, seemed to have a basic level of morality.

This movie described a lot of what happened to me.
16 last year, dated someone 8 years older.
i'd go with David, but if anything, I think it just depends on the person.

It does depend on the person. Some young women just want a mature guy. Hopefully not a crook though, like David.

If it were me at 16, i'd have chosen graham. Simply because I was hit on by a lot of older guys when i was younger, which creeped me out; it would be nice to go out with someone my age who was more innocent.

reply

Well, I am 15 right now and I would definitely go with Graham! He seemed so nice, I'm surprised she didn't like him at all.

i would personally be more interested in a person like me- (like her)- young, good looking, intelligent and honest.

we don't know much about her school boyfriend... maybe he was boring and david was so much fun (was it?) but to me the attraction she saw in david was basically the fact that he had MONEY.

that's a bit what the film is about... why not earn your own money if you are an intelligent woman? and go for a great guy who won't mess your life up?

reply

It wasn't the money, although that was a part of it. He made her feel grown up. She believed he was giving her experiences that would make her sophisticated. Hence the title.

David! I had a very similar story at 17 and yeah...I went with David. Around 17/18 I was realizing how immature the boys my age were, and how much more sophisticated older men are.

I would have gone for Graham. I would have felt that a man that age who was interested in me must have something off about him.

But if I were Jenny, in that time and place and restrictive environment, I think David. Older men were not so unusual for girls her age. He was charming, funny, seemed truly interested in her and took her on adventures. He seemed to offer a more colorful, fun and sophisticated life without dullness and drudgery.

So yes, David. But only if I were HER, not if I were me growing up when I did.

I liked boys like Graham. David's atractiveness is not really muy cup of tea no matter how much I like older men since my 20s. The guy at the ending was also cute. I believe that tastes are more complex than choosing between old and new.
