Absolutely loved it!

Got a chance to see it last night and man what a fantastic film it was! Definitely one of my favorites of the year. I'm curious to hear everyones opinion on it.

reply

I thought it was very good, but fell unfortunately short of being great.

reply

Yeah I can see some of the flaws it has that may deprive it from being great. Personally it didn't weigh the film down for me but yeah, I don't see it being for everyone.

reply

was the ending great?

...oh, wait....

reply

The cinematography, music, costumes, sets, editing and acting were all great. It's basically half a story though. A sequel is desperately needed.

reply

That’s why it says Part One. Let’s hope it does well enough to make Part Two.

reply

I loved it too. So far it's my favourite movie of the year. I really hope we get part 2 so we see how it ends. 9/10

reply

Same here. I don't know if it's my favorite film of the year as of yet. It's a big debate between this and No Time to Die but it's definitely up there. Warner Brothers needs to green light part 2 asap.

reply

Dune all the way!!!

reply

This film should receive at least a dozen Oscar nominations, most notably for the transcendent Zendaya, who is simply dazzling throughout.

reply

Yeah I hope the Academy doesn't pull another Blade Runner 2049 best picture and director snub stunt with this one. Seriously, the work that has been done in this film is masterful.

reply

It left me desperate for a sequel. That’s how much I loved it.

I hope it get greenlighted soon!

reply

Same here pal. We better get an announcement this coming week.

reply

Agreed, my favourite film of the year so far.

Needed to be about 30 minutes longer I think just for a bit more character development. Maybe there will be an extended cut for the home release. I get why it was the length it was though, they want to get casual audiences onboard not just the Dune nerds like me.

It’s only about covered the first third of the book though so I’m hoping they do two more movies, maybe they could film them back to back and release them six months apart or something.

reply

I thought the length was pretty good and I'm a sucker for long movies anyway. I doubt there will be an extended cut though. I'm not necessarily a "Dune nerd" cause I haven't read the book nor watched the original film. I was just on board mainly cause of Denis Villenueve. We definitely need part 2 or a complete trilogy since you mentioned it covered only the first third of the novel.

reply

Yeah, I’m happy with what we’ve got. It’s a really well paced 150 minutes I think.

The screenplay is fantastic, it’s really not an easy book to adapt but they did so well choosing what to keep in and what to leave out for part one. Should get an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay as well as many other nominations in other categories.

The fact that it’s got quite a few people wanting to see a sequel speaks volumes, shows Denis has done his job well.

Also a huge fan of Denis myself, one of the best directors working at the moment, couldn’t have asked for a better director to adapt Dune. You can tell Denis is a fan, this is exactly what I imagined the world to look like when I read the book.

I want to go and see it again as soon as possible haha

reply

Absolutely agree. It had a pretty solid 40 million plus opening weekend so there's a great chance part 2 will be green lit.

Yeah Denis is one of those directors who understands the whole basis of filmmaking when it comes down to acting, story, cinematography, music, sound, structure, and editing. This is probably my second favorite Denis Villenueve film behind Blade Runner 2049. What an achievement it was and yeah hopefully it earns many nominations.

reply

Second for me as well after Blade Runner 2049. That movie is a masterpiece and I watch it a couple of times a year and really soak up the mood and atmosphere that it does so masterfully.

So glad Dune had a good opening weekend, that is impressive considering it was also on HBO Max and is not an established franchise.
