Very slow and boring and none of the characters were compelling. Also it rips off War for the Planet of the Apes by having the main characters held prisoner in an abandoned weapons depot again. Shamefully derivative scriptwriting.
While this is your opinion, I truly want to understand what makes you think these characters aren't compelling. I disagree wholeheartedly with your statement, I think most of the characters have good motivations, messages, and themes even. This script does pay homage to all the Planet of the Apes films and it doesn't shy away from that, doesn't mean that hurts the film. While I agree there are some slight pacing issues, I think the film more than makes up for it with its themes.
shareI don't mind the characters, I just didn't really care for them much and if I don't care much for them or the story then it's not compelling viewing. This is the longest of the reboot Apes films and it certainly felt it for me, yes the film has to lay the groundwork for the inevitable sequels down the line but it doesn't do much if anything exciting or interesting unlike say Rise of the Planet of the Apes which managed to setup the sequels whilst telling a very compelling story as a standalone film with an incredible protagonist in Caesar.
In Kingdom Mae is more of a plot device than a fully fleshed out character. Noa is an okay protagonist but he's just a bit bland. Kingdom is exactly how I feel about Star Wars: The Force Awakens; you have a time jump, new characters and a familiar story line and I just end up going "This is nowhere near as good as A New Hope" and I'm the same with Kingdom, I'm just like "This is nowhere near as good as Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
I'm glad you liked the film, I really wish I did because the Caesar trilogy is one of my favourite film trilogies of all time and I was really looking forward to Kingdom but alas I just found it bad and I've pretty much forgotten most of it just a few days after seeing it.
5/10, very mediocre. It was pretty boring and just a rehash of the previous films. Plus, the new characters are not compelling at all.

share5/10. You'll find yourself missing Caesar, Maurice and everything else that made the first 3 so entertaining. Feels like a forced continuation of a story that already had closure.
shareAbsolutely, just like watching The Force Awakens and seeing Ray, Finn and Poe and missing Han, Luke and Leia. You'd think if they were gonna have brand new characters they'd make them interesting but nope.

Visually it looks great and has a strong ending. Pacing is terrible and the story doesn't get going until the last 3rd. Characters are weaker than the previous films too.
I'd say it's at least a solid 6 or maybe a 7.
Claims of being derivative are surely pretty much redundant in what is after all the tenth film in the franchise.
There's some really good stuff in there, especially the more extensive look at the fallen human cities, etc. e.g. I really liked the abandoned airport.
I loved the opening link to the previous trilogy. Also liked the set up of Proximus, his Kingdom and his downfall.
The negative is the girl, who wasn't that bad in herself but is unfortunately the character is pretty much a walking macguffin.
Overall though, if you liked the previous ones you aren't going to be disappointed with this...
