What If Outie Wants To Quit?

What happens if Outie personality wants to quit? What if they fall in love, or want to move to Paris, or need to take care of an ailing parent? Would Lumon sabotage that somehow or would they let them?

Judging by Mark’s home/lifestyle, other cars in the parking lot, it doesn’t seem like they get paid THAT much money that would encourage their Outie personality to stay there for life.

reply

Mark's reason for severance is grief avoidance.

I believe all of their reasons are similar. There was a quote in that map IIRC that said "you are here because you are not all there."

reply

I understand that, but people often do eventually move on. Or they’re forced to. Then what?

reply

I'd assume they just quit. They are the outie so they essentially have all the power in the relationship.

Personally though, if I'm the outie, I'd prefer my Innie not to have a heads up that i'm quitting and he's essentially being killed. That son of a bitch might do something extreme on his last work day.

What bugs me the most is how non-personal Mark's place is. No posters, paintings, decoration, houseplants.. just DULLEST colors possible with the DARKEST lighting possible as well. What are these people, vampires?

reply

Possibly budget, or its Canadian connection?

He went through a pretty bad loss and still suffers. From what I interpret, the midwife date was basically his first real attempt to continue living. Without his sister, he would be likely already dead.

That is the whole aesthetic of the show. Bare, white office rooms at work. Corporate housing that looks like a Marriot residence inn.

For me, they covered this with Burt's retirement. Not sure why Petey had a problem, though. Maybe because he wanted to keep his Innie alive after quitting.

reply

he wanted re-integration, Burt didn't.
