Geri Halliewell's accent?

What was she trying to convey in her scene? She comes from Watford. Why did she sound like someone NOT from Britian trying to put on a bad British accent?!

She plays Chev's mother when you see him as a boy on some 'Jeremy Kyle' type show. The scene only lasts a few minites and comes about 3/4 of the way though.

Should I have put 'spoilers' somewhere in here? Or does no one care?

She was obviously conforming to the Hollywood idea of British accents i.e. we either all sound like the Queen or common as muck. Just like we've all got bad teeth, all our women are mingers and the only thing we're good for us playing the baddies in films. I also love the way the Americans seem to think that Australians are British too (as in the host of the show she was in). Oh and the plural of sport is sport.

reply

We're just lulling the Americans into a false sense of security. Soon we shall have our day and take back the States - all the Bruces Willises and Keanu Reeveses in the world will not be able to stop us!

Hmmmm, now I'm thinking that that whole wedding business was part of the grand scheme to take back your empire. What better way to lull us into a false sense of security than with a hot maid of honor and those wackadoo hats!

This might be an incredibly stupid question, but as I don't really remember Geri's accent, was the one in the film not hers?

reply

I think the plural of sport can also be 'sports'. What's important is that any verb used in connection with either word takes the right form. 'Sports have always been a passion of mine' or 'Sport has always been a passion of mine' are both acceptable ways of saying the same thing.

How did we get onto this again?

reply

don't diss ginger jonathon, u know better than that!

Apologies, 'Bluebell Madonna' Ball.

Did you not hear the other accents in that scene? She probably did it to fit in.

"Come on, Steve. We've got a diem to carpe!"

Keanu Reeves is Canadian, and his mum is English. Why would he want to stop a English invasion of the US?

reply

Because he is now an American citizen. We are all mutts proud of our home.

reply

a person can be both American and Canadian
