Since When Is Superman Strapped For Cash?

Clark gets laid off at The Daily Planet, and he and Lois worry about having the fluidity to buy the family farm?! THE DUDE MAKES DIAMONDS BY PRESSING COAL!

Sheesh! The fucking stupid CW.

reply

just because he's got super strength does not mean he's above the law. He's always been like that--always lived 'normal' Lois and Clark had him living in a flop house motel when he first got to Metropolis--even though he probably could have arranged nicer digs 'somehow'. It's supposed to be part of the 'charm' of this character. yes he was taught to live modest too.

reply

There’s not 1 thing illegal about turning coal into Diamond. It’s a real gem. It’s not stolen from anyone. All Supes does is to speed up the natural transformation.

reply

point is that they've always shown clark living ultra modestly--even when he could make himself wealth literally. he was taught to do that by his parents.

reply

well there is modestly then there is allowing the family farm to be repossed by the bank.

reply

And it honestly would not occur to clark to 'make' himself wealth literally. He was taught to work for it

reply

umm.... turning coal into diamond is work, amigo. There is so much work he could do without resorting to theft and turning himself ultra rich in moments that it's surreal. Point being - there's no doubt that this is definite hole in the film logic.

reply

It's not a 'hole' to him though. He wasn't taught to use his powers to get rich.

reply

He is an intelligent adult. He'd need to have the intelligence of a kindergartener in order not to know how to use his powers to make an honest living. Do you know how many ships are at the bottom of the oceans with gold/diamonds/treasure? Hell, the bottom of the ocean is mostly unexplored - there's bound to be diamonds there as well.

As one person pointed out -
He can mine for gold, gems and precious metals.

He can locate shipwrecks and buried treasure.

Anyways, it's gonna be hilarious if he starts pimping out his wife/children just to get by - lol
When the lack of logic is a plot device - I wouldn't be surprised if he really did start doing that.

reply

If he does start making diamonds with his bare hands and spending them, he could potentially destroy the economy. and being rich would bring too much attention to him from the rest of the world.. Plus Clark wants to do everything as a fair minded citizen would. Meaning that if he didn't earn it from legit work then he has no right to it. That is his code.. I am sure that Clark using his powers for financial gain will eventually come up in this show.

reply

bullshit
no one is saying he should make trillions of dollars via diamond creation
When you consider how many billionaires are out there, and how many diamonds there are - one or two million worth of diamonds wouldn't make a dent

reply

Exactly...Cameron from Ferris Bueller made millions sticking lumps of coal up his ass and then turning them into diamonds.

reply

Or he could just steal a ton of cash from drug dealers...

reply

Don’t know if he is broke, it’s possible the military is giving him a stipend too.

That being said, this is a very dark take on Supes for a tv show. Interesting indeed.

reply

Well he prefers to live a mediocre human life because he's been taught that way, I guess he likes to be all stressed out, grounded, suffering, etc. (as he was in Smallville in which he had been tempted numerous times)

In reality and even being raised with all those values I don't think I could resist the temptation for power and wealth at least once in a while lol

reply

This is what happens when you have a bunch of cunts that have never actually read the comic book start writing episodes or movies about the comic character. Hell he wouldn't even have to make diamonds he could just go mining natural diamonds at super speed.

reply

You may remember a terrible network science-fiction show from the 90s, Earth 2. One of the selling points the show runners offered was that it was being written and produced BY PEOPLE WHO HAD NEVER DONE SCI FI! So it was going to take a “fresh” approach! Yes. It was an approach that was horrible. A 1 season wonder.

reply

Finally got around to watching this show, and this was one of the first things that jumped out at me. Interestingly, it parallels the situation Falcon finds himself in, in that show. Realistically, for people like them, this simply wouldn't happen.

Ah well. No show is perfect. Not even The Wire. . .

reply

We all know he wouldn't allow himself to get this poor when he can save money by not running any farming equipment and just doing it by hand.

reply

He could write a book I'm Sure the Name Superman Has Selling Power like Stephen King.
