It was lousy. The most interesting bit of the movie happened in the first 10 minutes or so when the pig was stolen. After that it’s John Wick with no guns looking for his pig in a thick underbelly of foodies in some city. I kept hoping it would get better. It didn’t. And the pig died. The end.

Keep Cage in the rage-mode performance, add one-liners here and there and you got yourself a decent comedy/action/drama flick. I don’t care if they’d say it’s a cliche or a clone, whatever. Still it would’ve been much more fun instead of this nonsensical drivel. Honestly I wasn’t expecting much from this film, but I thought that I could still find something to like about it. Like acting or some visuals - nothing is in here. I thought how bad could it be? Well, it was pretty bad. They did it all wrong. The pig was supposed to be a great character even maybe the start or the movie. It could’ve been much more, you know. So many opportunities were wasted.
They could’ve had a twist ending. Like Cage dining at the restaurant only to find out that he was served his beloved Pig. Did it even have a name?
The pig did not have a name. It was literally named Pig (because a man who has gone to live in a hole in the woods who has contact with only one person doesn't have enough time on his hands to come up with a name for his pet).
shareIt's a violent movie with little to no violence in it. It's a slow burn, and a film that plays on your expectations constantly. You're always expecting Cage's character to flip out and go on a violent spree, but it never happens, because he's just a chef who decided to live in the woods after a traumatic loss, not some hit man secret assassin or anything.
I enjoyed it, but it's a small film with a small, simple story. A bit overrated, and it requires patience, but it's very well acted and has many nice moments. It's certainly not what you'd think it would be given the trailer and Cage's presence in it.
I didn't know what to think of it at first. I found it compelling, but didn't really get the point. But after a day or so of thinking about it, I realized the film has a lot of depth to it. "And the pig died. The end" misses a few things! This was a film about loss, specifically about the avoidance of it. All the main characters were dealing with loss, each handling (or not handling) it in their own ways. Cage moved to the woods and lent his emotional energy to the pig as a way to escape the death of his wife. He makes it clear that this is his way when he says in the diner that if he hadn't come into town, he would never have learned the pig died. But then he deals with the pig's death and then deals with his wife's, playing the cassette at the end of the film that he could not bring himself to play earlier.
Good film, this one. Lots more to it than what it seems on the surface.

Yep, pretentious pointless rubbish. I enjoy a mood piece but this was just meandering & hollow. It started well but as soon as I saw the restaurant "fight club" I knew I was watching bullshit. Or pigshit as it were.
