Another shot at live action?

I defi itely believe it deserves another shot. The dragon ball stories are so rich with content, seeing it with a bigger budget, a proper story and some great actors this could be huge. Starting with the Saiyan Saga to freiza, cell, Majin Bu theres so much to explore. I hope that one day it becomes a reality instead of this dribble that was put out.

Like SUPER MARIO BROS., I just don't know if DRAGON BALL could ever work in live-action. At least in a way everyone is satisfied.

I think Fox still has the license to the live-action film rights. I'm not sure of the copyright status. It's possible the license will run out in 2019, or however long that takes. They may have to make another by then, or lose the license.

I think what they need to do is make an investment in the property, hire a great up and coming director + producer who is willing to take risks and give it the budget that it deserves! It could be huge if done correctly! I hope one day we do see it!

Not that it isn't feasible to make movies out of animated series, but I think shows like Dragon Ball and One Piece would be like making a live action Simpsons movie. The animation styles are what make them kind of unique, I mean compared to say making a Cowboy Bebop movie, which would look more realistic. But I mean Dragon Ball probably belongs in an animated world, just because how alot of the characters look. I mean most people knew if they saw a live action Piccolo how weird it might look.

Fox will squeeze out another one once the rights are about to expire like they did with Hitman and Fantastic Four.

I'm torn on the idea of a live action DBZ movie. I love DBZ and would love to see a live action movie succeed. On the other hand I'm not sure that a live action movie can work and I don't really see the point in a simple retelling of the source material. This isn't like the MCU and DCEU where they can tell an original story using the source material for inspiration. A live action DBZ movie would just be a retelling of the manga/anime and if I want that I'll just watch the anime or even DBZ Abridged.

Going the Assassin's Creed movie route and telling an original story within the DBZ universe would be interesting but would also be hard.

Hey, i'm aware about dragon ball. I'm also aware that it didn't become mainstream until the Saiyan saga hit. Even after that actually. No need for snarkyness :-)

if you had any kind of cinematic vision you would also understand that the atmosphere in dragonball has a much bigger appeal cinematically than the saiyen ark. the people who don't understand that should NOT be involved in the movie business. I seriously do not understand how people can not see that the dragonball universe works so much better as a movie than the saiyan ark. The saiyan ark should come AFTER the dragonball movies.

Yeah I don't know why people think a movie based on the world tournament would not make a good movie. It can definitely be done. What I want to see is someone give it the kinda treatment that was given to guardians of the galaxy. old 70s pop songs could really liven this movie up.

Fox should make a "realistic" animation, like 'Beowulf' or 'The Adventures of Tintin'... Then they sould be able to make a movie that preserves the visuals (without making them weird, like live action piccolo), as well as providing the great realistic action and movement we all want to see in a live action movie from DBZ...

I also think they should pick a more simple story, displaying fewer characters, like Mirai Trunks storyline (DB: a light of hope looks great, imo).

The way they handled the LOTR trilogy and the Harry potter series. Thats the way they should handle the live action DBZ movies. With respect for the source material and a talented director.

Dragon Ball does not begin with Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z is the middle of the story. If you cannot understand that you are not only not a true Dragon Ball fan you have no business discussing how the movie should be made.

And it's funny you use Harry Potter as your example because what you are suggesting would be as if they started Harry Potter with The Goblet of Fire and skipped the first three movies and never made them.
