The ending is the most disturbing ending I've ever seen in any movie

***SPOILERS***

the way the whole movie they talk about amy being a virgin, and then he rapes her and you see the blood...and the pictures of megan that he posted on the website and the barrel scene just shocked me. the way amy died was absolutely terrible...just i won't be able to sleep the same in a while. this really messed me up.

i've seen every horror movie out there, and i've never had one disturb me like this. 2 young girls like that...just everything about it is terrifying.

I have to agree, I watch a lot of horrors and after watching it last night I just sat there for god knows how long. Just hearing Amy plead for her life and he just kept digging. It is scary that there is really no remorse for people like that and that scares me. Just seeing the hell these poor girls went through on their final hrs on earth was like. From Megan's photo god knows what else he did to that poor girl. I can't imagine what would of gone through poor Amy's head knowing that your were trapped in that barrel with your dead best friend trapped and all alone. It bothers me that someone truly might had really had that ordeal given to them considering some of the incidents are based on real cases. I think it was the most real torture scene I have every scene and I never want to see anything like that again. I just felt sick.

I thought that the movie for the first 3 quarters was quite lame. By lame I mean bad acting, bad dialogue and just bad all round. I think when they showed the video of the stranger behind Amy under the bridge I started to change my mind a bit. I think from then on the movie got stronger. When the fetish image popped up, I think that was one of the biggest frights I have experienced. That has scarred me and will be in my head for a long time.

After that, I was pretty much shaking. When the hand appeared in front of the camera and it paused, I panicked. Then that last 22 minutes of 'Josh's' film was maybe ONE of the most painful pieces of media I've seen. I can't describe my shock and fear. The bit where he opens the barrell and we see her best friend I almost couldn't take it any more. Then the rest of the film I was frozen, reflecting on how this and so much worse happens quite frequently. Such an eye opener. The first 3 quarters felt like it had a poorly excecuted message and was just very sloppy. I have to say the last quarter almost made up for that...I won't be going to sleep for a while...

I think that night after watching the movie I put 'Arrested Development' on. Still didn't numb the pain...

its realistic. its great total horror. i think it warns but people dont listen. all the kids seeing people online should watch this and the like. and read books on it too. people dont deserve to die but this does happen. its a cruel world and it wont change

I trust you have seen Snowtown, Salo, Murder Set Pieces and A Serbian Film - if not you'll realise the ending is fairly tame - aside from 3 moments the film was lame - the time when Amy is recording under the bridge and we see "Josh" behind her, The Megan fetish pic and Megan in the barrel

reply

And Cannibal Holocaust, Martyrs and "Inside" are far more disturbing than this....these seasonal horror films obviously haven't seen any of these if they found this disturbing

reply

hah and b horrors are even good and even >>>

reply

No to all 3. This is worse then those 3, at least for me. Serbian Picture and Salo are a joke as well. Nekromantik 1 and 2 on the other hand........

reply

Shrug, I did and have seen all three of these movies. They are all much better than Megan is Missing which is almost absolute garbage, in my opinion. But, I still found the end disturbing. I regret watching "Inside", and normally my gore tolerance is up pretty high. I'm not sure what it was, maybe the victim being a vulnerable pregnant woman.

Nice profile pic by the way. I used to joke about the "creepy old guy from Poltergeist" until I ran into a man in a grocery store last year who looked like they could be brothers. He acted pervy and strange, did not help anything! Haha.

i have seen A serbian Film and while that film is super disturbing, i would say that MiM is worse
i just love when directors try and go for TOTAL realism, even when they fail at moments, at others they become 100% convincing and it's great, really terrifying

serbian film is atrociously terrible but you can always tell yourself "it's just a movie" due to camera angles of traditional filmmaking, that's why i love Found Footage so much, it's very hit and miss but when done right like in Rec 1, Paranormal Activity 1 an Megan is Missing, you get some unforgettable moments

I must say, ive never seen a movie where the last 15 minutes is nothing but digging or filling in a hole.

Perfect example of why untalented people need to stop thinking they can make movies.

'Based on true events' is something written on the promotional poster of pretty much every horror these days. It doesn't mean anything, it's a marketing tool.

you should watch:

- Salò, or 120 Days of Sodom
- Irréversible
- A Serbian Film
- Antichrist

etc...

that would be perfect for you... but seriously Megan Is Missing is not really disturbing...

reply

I already knew what was going to happen at the end of the film, that is part of the reason I wanted to watch this film but I did not know it was going to be that disturbing. I have watched a lot of disturbing films and this is one of my top five disturbing films.

reply

Irreversible, out of those four, is the only one that comes close to Megan is Missing for me, but still no cigar. They're all disturbing films, but Megan is Missing truly scarred me.

I think the reason it's so disturbing is the fact that it comes out of nohwere. The first hour of this movie is a pretty run-of-the-mill story about two teenage girls, just being friends, chasing boys, dealing with bullies, etc. Then the last 22 minutes hits you like a *beep* freight train.

It's one of the most effective horror sequences I've ever seen... No soundtrack, no cutaways, filmed on a grainy handheld camera, in this grimy dungeon. There is absolutely no hope of a happy ending. Not a single punch is pulled. We see this innocent girl just get brutalized by this sick twisted psycho for 22 straight minutes. Finally she's buried alive in a barrel with the body of her dead best friend inside, and the movie just *beep* ends right there. Holy *beep*.

I'm actually surprised at how low/unpopular this movie is on here. I think a bunch of people never made it through the first half hour (and yeah it's B-movie quality at the beginning) -- but man, did you guys miss out on a hell of an ending.

reply

It was kind of shocking when you see her friend inside the barrel but the rest of the film is way too dull

I think the cheap handy cam films have died at this point
15+ years ago when films like Love & Pop introduced it (or later the US Blair Witch Project that went mainstream) they were doing something new it was ok but now its more just annoying to watch things like this or Paranormal Activity
