Would a fetish message board really have noticed the photos of Megan? I'm not a frequenter of such boards, but I would assume that similar material is not surprising enough to warrant contacting the FBI. Was it that the photos seemed too "real" to be staged? Just curious on how everyone else felt about that part...

It's possible one of the members (or guests) of the board saw this picture, thought she looked like the missing girl, and turned it into the police? Or if maybe the fbi (or police departments) monitor some of the more extreme sites (just a thought ...)

I think someone on another thread said fetish sites don't usually include blood...I could be wrong but maybe that stood out to one of the site mods.

It might have to do more with how young she looked. While the actress may be way older, the girl is only supposed to be 14, which is really disturbing.

Most fetish sites don't make it a habit of containing what is obviously extreme torture porn. The pics of Megan were extreme and would make most people, even those who enjoy bondage and other fetishes, look closer. If they recognize the girl as the one who is splashed all over the news, then yeah, I bet someone would contact the web host and the police.

The filmmaker claimed that this idea came from a real life incident where 2 pictures of a missing girl in a fetish device were found online . Later, her dead body was found. However, he didn't give the name of the girl and I can't find the case online. I don't know, it seems plausible to me that someone could recognize a missing girl while randomly surfing for porn online.

I Don't think that photo would have even raised an eyebrow on most fetish sites. It would be more likely that somebody would report it to the police because they thought it looked like the missing girl.
I think, as other people have said, that after quite a few people filed complaints, someone would have looked at it and realized something was wrong, since I'm sure they know the website back to front.

There used to be a very popular hard BDSM website called 'Insex' that produced imagery very similar to the pictures of Megan. It was closed down in 2005 by the US Government under the new anti-terrorism act, though the site didn't have any ties to terrorism and didn't practice anything illegal. They went out of their way to make it clear the whole thing was mutual and that the model participated with consent.
There is also a documentary called 'Graphic Sexual Horror' with interviews with the old models and the founder of the site. It's interesting to see how what started as a personal passion for the founder turned into just another career driven business.
Though nowhere the norm, it's not particularly unusual to find pictures of women restrained in a similar way to Megan. The difference is in the details. You can tell by Megan's eyes she's panicking, a trait you usually don't see in pictures where the person consents.
