Disgrace to Chris Penn's memory!

WTF Hollywood! Get a clue! If you need to remake a movie! Make it one thats not a classic like this is!
I bet Chris Penn is turning in his grave!
To be honest ive not saw the movie as yet and i dont intend to! But i know that it should never have been remade! Whats next??? Dirty Dancing??? Saturday Night Fever??? Flashdance???
Make something original! Please for the love of God!

Are you kidding me? You think Chris Penn is turning in his grave? The original Footloose ALSO sucked.

reply

I do think the original 'Footloose" had an unexpected element to it. This time we knew what to expect. Kevin Bacon still rules, however the other roles were pretty good. Love the dancing!

Not "Dirty Dancing" is a classic and covers a great era in music and dance. It should NOT be remade.

I think Chris Penn would've been proud of the kid that filled his shoes. He was so adorable and funny as Willard, but that's just my opinion :)

I will skin you. I will debone you. I will feed your entrails to our neighbor's Shih Tzu!

One- They are remaking Dirty Dancing.
Two- I am not a teenager, I am in my early twenties and grew up watching the original as well, and it is a great movie. However, I thought this remake was FABULOUS. I have seen it twice in the theatre and would have no problem going again. I also will be purchasing it when it comes out on DVD. It is fantastically done and think that before anyone judges ANY movie they should see it.
Third- Miles Teller, who plays Willard does a fantastic job, in fact, I think he does a better job that Chris Penn did in the original.

All you 80's lovers need to settle down and give the new generation a chance. Grow up.

reply

Dang if Chris Penn is just turning over in his grave because of the remake, he's gonna be REALLY pissed when he finds out that the new guy did a better job at this character than he did.

And if this board is filled with "13, 14, 15 years old just getting off to this movie" its NOTHING compared to the late 20's 30's or 40's who are doing nothing but getting off to the original.

Seriously...Some growing up has to be done from you original era people. Open up your mind a little bit. A Black man can be President, Gay people can get married.....and the Footloose remake was great.

Go see it and have an iintelligent argument....Or kindly shut the hell up.

We are not saying the new generation should not be given a chance. We are saying you are failing in this chance by choosing to remake movies instead of using original ideas. No matter how good a remake is, you can never prove yourselves emulating others. These actors already have it hard enough being judged in the internet age, without being compared to the stars that held the part before them. I choose not to watch remakes, not because I believe they all suck. I just cannot sit through a film, lets say like "A Nightmare on Elm Street", without comparing James Earl Haley to Robert Englund. To me that in itself ruins the film for me. The exception for me was "Karate Kid", mainly because it was not even a remake, and would have stood on its own merits, and done a lot better, if they did not use that title. It had nothing to do with Karate, just lazy producers could not come up with even an original title.

It's actually really good. The guy who plays Williard (Chris Penn's role) does a really good job. Oh and just FYI- Chris Penn HATED this movie and didn't care one bit about it...

growing up in the 80's and watching the original was great but this was a good remake .. and the guy who played Willard did a fantastic job .. I think Chris Penn would be proud ... i was laughing out loud in the theatre when he was learning to dance with the little girls ... it was cute!! :)

Retards demand. Hollywood supplies...

Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer and John Lithgow were on Good Morning America promoting the remake of Footloose. I'm pretty sure Chris Penn would have been there too.

reply

Surely the three of them were kidnapped and forced to promote it on Good Morning America, with the producers pointing guns at them off camera in case they said anything negative about the remake. Right?

Oh and to people saying "do original stuff Hollywood!" - they do, all the time and you people still find something to bitch about. Remakes aren't some new thing, they've been around for years and years and they aren't going anywhere.

I don't mind a remake here and there but, 2011 had the most remakes and 2012 is will break that record. I am glad the box office finished with a sixteen year low in 2011. Maybe some theaters will close down and just maybe Hollywood will get a FVCKING CLUE.

This movie Footloose is about a town that banned dancing. That idea was farfetched in the 1980's and is even more so this day in age.

There are so many good books out there that can be made into movies.

reply

Doubtful. Chris Penn publicly disavowed this movie more than once in public.

I bet Chris Penn is turning in his grave!

Highly unlikely given how fat he was.

reply

Seriously ... Whats wrong with you?

I grew up watching the films you speak about. I thought the kid they got to play the "Chris Penn" part was awesome, and the most sympathetic character of the piece.

Please don't make closed minded remarks without seeing the film - it undermines your integrity as a poster.
