Universal's HALLOWEEN ENDS had its throat slashed--dropping -80% in its 2nd weekend w/ $8M, $54M total.
That's how you kill off a franchise. Don't worry, MM will return. He always does.
This really hurts a lot. This wasn't one of my favorites of the series but I hate to see that happen to a Halloween film. At least Universal can blame it on Peacock. That may have been the plan all along. They knew it was going to piss off many people and wanted that insurance in case it flopped. It's a real shame either way, though.
You and I evidently have different mindsets. I'm over the moon that this film is having near historic levels of going off a cliff edge.
I love the Halloween franchise, the original film might even be my favorite film of all time. (In any case it's the film I've watched more than any other.)
I'd love nothing more than for Ends to have been an awesome film and to have dominated the box office. I go into every film wanting to like it, especially when it's an entry into a franchise I adore. It was cool back in 2018 when the reboot got good reviews and raked in the dough at the box office, I had some issues with that film but it was alright. Kills was quite cringe unfortunately, very uneven.
Ends was an abomination for me and evidently many others. It deserves to crash and burn. Hopefully it sends a message and when the inevitable reboot comes along that they recognize many fans do not want films like this. Also hopefully it leads to Blumhouse keeping DGG on a leash when it comes to his planned The Exorcist trilogy. Cause let it be known I'm absolutely dreading that, I have no faith in that man and don't want him to shit all over another beloved IP.
I had the theater to myself the 2nd time I saw Rob Zombie's Halloween II. Two employees came in and didn't even realize anyone was there, so they turned on the lights and started cleaning. I was too shy to say anything and just let them do it. One finally saw me, said "Oh shit, sorry dude!" and then turned the lights back off and left.
