One of my favorite theatre experiences

And I wasn’t even high. I don’t think... I was just with a group of friends and we were all so hyped to finally see it. Bought the tickets in advance for opening night. Good times.
Most memorable is the scene just before they retreat into the subway system, when the military show up and the monster is RIGHT THERE on top of them. The explosions rocked me to my bones, and the panic was contagious and real.
This is one of those movies (one of many) that makes me aspire towards having my own legitimate home theatre, some lovely day in the future... some movies really deserve the spectacle.

Same.

I remember some complaining about the theater experience due to the shaky hand-held cam throughout.

I can understand that, because some people get motion sickness, but luckily I’m not one of em.
One thing though, in subsequent viewings, it kinda gets hard to accept that HUD really held onto that camera and functioned as a halfway decent photojournalist for the entirety of the events depicted. I mean, in real life, I’m pretty sure survival instinct would win out over a need to document everything. I would’ve dropped that camera out of pure shock when the Statue of Liberty’s head went rolling by. But hey, it’s a movie, so I shake my head with a chuckle and go with it.
