Shacky cam sucks, the movie is horrible.

And i'm not a troll, this movie is just truly awful, the shacky cam, the editing, the effects the horrible sound. Why not give us a nice shining militairy-monster action movie. You can sit through and enjoy. Another concept wasted. I definatly don't need to see annoying characters. Just horrible. BAD,BAD,BAD,BAD,BAD.

reply

Because this movie wasn't trying to be a typical Godzilla, or Battle Los Angeles (terrible movie) type of movie. Instead it did something different and it was effective.

reply

I'm sorry you have that opinion. I definitely disagree with you.

btw lol "shacky".

Hey movie buff ... have you ever watched The Blair Witch Project?
If no, then you need to watch that. Because maybe after experiencing that you'll have a bit more respect for "shacky" filming.

The intention of this "shacky" filming is to let the viewer feel what it's like to be in the middle of it. You're not just watching the movie. You're hip deep in it!

I dunno. Maybe you even tracked down everyone who filmed the 9/11 events and verbally attack them for "shacky" filming too?

I suggest you stick to super hero movies.

Honestly, I'm not really impressed with the movie. It had some cool moments, but it is kind of gimmicky and doesn't really offer much.

reply

Ha, ha. I don't have a dog in this fight but since you mentioned "The Blair Witch Project" I can say with no malice intended that is one of the worst movies I have seem amongst the 4000+ movies I have seen. I couldn't come up with even one saving grace for that movie.

What did you think was so bad about Blair Witch?
I personally loved that final scene, but before that how one with a camera yells out in the dark while hearing another person far away yelling. or all those sounds around them in the dark of the night.

What I disliked about it was how they kept filming, no matter how scared they were or when they may have felt danger lurking. The first thing I would have done was pack up the cameras and hightail it.

The first "Blair Witch" was quite good. I actually liked that film a lot more than this film.

reply

The first Blair witch is a masterpiece. I just can't understand people who like this new horror now. Blair was all about building up a sense of isolation and dread. Way scarier than any CGI witch or jump scares with loud music

Don't get me wrong, I love BWP and it'll go down as one of my favorite supernatural/horror movies BUT. I don't find it effective anymore, especially considering all the movies that have come out after it, an the fact that I've watched a lot more of the classics than I had when BWP came out (I was 16, I think)

reply

Okay. I disagree but thanks for sharing a respectful opinion instead of the usual "OMG THIS MOVIE SUX".

Thing is, blair witch was effective because it was unique. When everyone started copying it (poorly, usually) it stopped working just like jumpscares stopped working. it can be done well (like Cloverfield) but like any genre it has plenty of shit in it.

reply

it worked for blair witch because it was "new" but in reality? shakey cam *beep* sucks and is a *beep* filming "Style"!

reply

It's been 8 years since your response so no one will probably see this, but I had to vent about the comments I see that shaky cam is there to be realistic or, as you put it, "let the viewer feel what it's like to be in the middle of it." But that is not true. I have been in crises situations, and the people, places and thinks I am looking at are not jumping around like they are in a shaky cam. A shaky cam might be described as showing a viewer what a recording looks like when a person is running around in a crises situation, but not what is feels like to actually be there observing.

Further, for many of us, the shaky cam is distracting, gets old quick and makes it difficult to endure an entire movie of that junk.

reply

Yeah that shaky camera is very annoying! That's the part where I gave up on this movie.

reply

Yes it was a horrible film, watched once never again, with all the shaky cam rubbish it made me feel sick allot of the time when watching it plus the story line wasn't that good and the same go's for the actors to.

reply

Agreed. I've grown beyond tired of these lame "found-footage" movies. They're all the The Blair Witch Project when it gets down to it.

I'm relieved to see that 10 Cloverfield Lane isn't adhering to that obnoxious format.

I made the mistake of watching this in the theater.

At the time, they had a warning sign stating that, if you suffer from motion sickness, do NOT see this movie. Of course, I ignored it and in the first 10 - 20 minutes or so, I thought I was going to barf. I kept looking away hoping it would get better, but I ultimately wound up leaving.

To this day, I still haven't seen this movie in its entirety. What a shame, I've heard a bunch of positive reviews about it. I probably won't be able to watch the sequel since it will probably be filmed the same style as well.

reply

10 cloverfield lane is not a sequel. I don't know what IMDB is thinking?

reply

Its a side-quel. Its supposed to be set up in the same universe, take place later than the events depicted in Cloverfield, but cover entirely different characters in a different place. The Cloverfield Paradox also did this. Its how this "Cloverfield universe" works.

reply

Ordinarily I despise found footage/shaky cam type movies .. this is one exception and is very well done.
