Poorly lit?
Saw this tonight. EVERY scene was too dark, even in a lit room or outside during the daytime. Was this an issue with my specific theater or is it actually that poorly lit?

sharei could barely make out the title cards in the opening scene, & at that point was worried that the entire film was going to be a gloomy, barely discernible blur.
but i found it just fine after that, & i usually am the first one to complain about scenes being too dark and/or theatres not projecting things properly.
i thought it looked great, and i really liked it a lot - am almost shocked at how much i enjoyed it.
Look at some images from it.
shareI too had this experience recently. although I am more likely to blame a failing projection system or a failing projectionists at my Cine Plex Pod Palace then a top-notch team of Hollywood professionals with a blockbuster budget, top cast and a top responsibility to their shareholders. If anything I can imagine these are the folks who would very much like their names to be seen whenever possible and in any/all credits.
shareThat was fine when I saw it, but it was VERY LOUD. The projector fan was loud, so I think they cranked the volume up to cover that. The end scene music was almost deafening.
shareA trend seems to be on for dimly lit movies. Even the poster selling the movie seems to give away how dimly lit the movie is going to be. I always check out the trailers and film posters first. I don't want to sit there wondering what's going on in the flickering shadows onscreen. Avoid any that you think are going to be like this as a discouragement for further dimly-lit movies.
shareThis is exactly why I didn't see it until it was on video. The trailer just made it seem dark and visually sterile looking.
shareNot poorly lit enough to show how grotty the house of the cop was. Did you notice the dirt on everything? The light switches? The doors? It was gross.
shareYeah, it was really dark! Way too dark. Too many cinematographers this past decade or so think that, when a scene is set in a darker place, you just have all the lights off. But, the idea is to give the sense of darkness. So, you can still light enough so we can see the shapes of the characters and get a sense of the space.
shareMost modern movies are terribly lit.
