Those that aren't fans of the franshise, what do u think?

Ok for me going into the first movie I knew absolutely nothing about the GI joe franshise, I mean nothing! So I saw this movie as any other regular movie. And I actually loved it. So I'm curious for those who are like me and don't know anything about the characters and what it's really supposed to be like, what do you think?
Also even though I love the first one so much after seeing the trailer for the second one, I'm a little worried. Because basically no one from the first one is in this one, and with the addition of the rock and Bruce Willis this movie seems drastically different then the first one, so as a fan of the first one, I'm not so sure I'm ganna like this new one.
Now I'm just talking to those who aren't fans of the franshise, cause I realize those who are, hate the movie for so many reasons. So I'm just talking to those who saw the first one as just a regular movie like I did.

I wasn't really impressed.

Too much "USA *beep* yeah!" about it to my liking. But I get why it's like that, so I wasn't surprised, it merely blurred my suspension of disbelief that you need to have in movies of this type.

This piece of dog crap was made with non-fans in mind. Just like with any movie based on a video game, or that abortion that was Transformers, they disregard the source material and want to cater to those that aren't fans. They think this will get a bigger audience, but all they do is piss off the fans, and majority of the time, the non-fans don't want to see it in the first place.

OP.

To answer your question...I thought the movie was ok, nothing particularly memorable about the story, just par for the course leave your brain at the door action flick. I gave it a 5/10.

I wouldn't have remembered the movie at all except for Rachel Nichols.
I dont remember much about her acting so cant comment on that but I do remember how stand out attractive she looked compared to all the other females in the cast and was a little taken aback.

...I think transformers actually pulled in a lot of cash...doubling its budget. A bad reference point for "how to do things wrong".

Remember some of the imagery from the 80s cartoon, but certainly not a fan of the property.

I hated this movie. Among the worst crap I've ever seen.

Fortunately I had just re-watchd Starship Troopers and could detect a bit of tongue-in-cheek going on here too.

Not a fan of modern actioners but this was ok. Heavily borrows from Team America and Return Of The Jedi.

p.s. What franchise? I thought this was the first and so far only GI Joe movie.

reply

What franchise? I thought this was the first and so far only GI Joe movie. >>> Last time I looked, the term franchise didn't mean movies alone. The whole GI JOE vs. Cobra franchise has been around since the 1980s and consists of toys, comic books, and cartoons. The movie is just the latest offering in the franchise.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

What? Like the Busg Bunny franchise? And the Dracula franchise?

Usually when you talk about a franchise your referring to things in the same medium. e,g. the GI Joe comic book franchise and the GI Joe movie franchise.

reply

Are you seriously this stupid? http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/franchise?s=t The term "franchise" is not limited to movies, and this movie is merely a part of the franchise. A franchise is a brand. It isn't split up into groupings such as comic book or toy. GI JOE is the brand and all that fall under that umbrella is the franchise. I can't believe I am having to explain this to you. And Bugs Bunny is not a franchise, but Looney Tunes is.

Plus, it wasn't the only GI Joe movie anyway. There was the animated one called G.I. Joe: The Movie :)

Takin' out the trash, trailer park style!!

I liked it alot. Going into it I wasn't to excited but I was really impressed with it. It delivered what I paid for, a good action film.

I enjoyed it, but mostly because I remembered that it was a movie based off some toys from my childhood. Never really had a chance to watch the cartoons. Probably a more decent story than I could make up lying on my stomach and making two figures fight each other without breaking the thumbs.
