the BEST found footage movie?

better than blair witch, paranormal activity
I think so, at least.

reply

i would say yes, Number 1 for me

though i give huge credits to Blairwitch and Paranormal Activity for popularizing the subgenre

in fact now im always watching pretty much every found footage movie that i find, looking for the next REC-like experience of realism

Closest i've come is "Grave Encounters" and "Megan is Missing"

reply

my favorites are Rec, Blair Witch, & Chronicle (although not technically "found" footage).

Rec scared me really good and had me thinking about zombies for days but the ultimate is BW because i couldn't sleep normally for a whole week! That movie messed me up good.

reply

that's the sign of a great film, when it screws you up for days "Megan is Missing" did it for me, highly recommended

And chronicle is a found footage superhero movie , but still found footage i would say :)

reply

yea agreed on the signs of great films point!

However the only reason i say chronicle is not a found footage movie is because let's say unlike REC or BW where they use only a single camera, Chronicle uses multi cameras. Like when he's in the hospital, it changes to the CCTV cam view. Or in the end fight, when they are hovering in the air and those people are in the building (was it elevator? it's been a while), the cam switches over to the cameras on the cellphone of the people in the elevator. A true found footage film uses a single camera where the film is found. I believe Chronicle is a non-found footage film shot in a "user cam" style by the director. Of course this is simply all my opinion of course.

reply

yeah i get your point, i think that in chronicle they were trying to innovate a bit, but still carrying the idea that "this is footage filmed casually by people in the situation, not staged"
but chronicle pushes the idea a bit too far at moments, like when the bad guy levitates a dozen ipads and iphones around him to have more camera angles on the siuation, that was a bit far fetched i though

in REC 2 there was a good idea, swat team with cameras mounted on guns, good!

Megan is missing has most of his footage via webcam chats, via PC or smartphones, which is a bit pushy too cause they are all recorded into the phones themselves, still i give it a pass for having a truly horrifying ending, (really, its not "fun with zombies" horror, its more like "vile, cruel, i cant believe they put this on film" horror territory"

i remember in V/H/S one of the stories involved a guy using spy glasses, those thick glasses that hide a camera in the middle, so its even more of a found footage film, looks like a first person shooter game

Dude, "Megan is Missing", omfg. Two of my (adult, male, seen tons of horror flicks, don't-scare-easily types) watched this and told me neither of them had slept well for weeks, that it was just SO terrifying. So I watched it with friends and we were petrified to the point of literally all sleeping in the same room afterward (to be fair, we were living in an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, so it was seriously creepy).

However, other people I know who are younger, not big horror movie fans, etc. saw it and responded with "uh, what was scary about that?". It really depends on what scares you, I guess - some see it as one of the scariest movies ever, and some don't even see it as scary.

I thought it was scary as s#!t :)

my favorite is Cloverfield :3

Mine too.
Very impressive and quite unforgettable.

I never saw Megan is Missing? Is it worth renting? I enjoyed the Paranormals, as well as Cloverfriend (I'm aware that's a typo but I left it in because it looked funny) and Blair Witch, x

reply

it is very very *beep* up at the end
its a movie about the dangers of the internet so to speak, but it had me truly horrified by the end

reply

The best found footage movie is NOROI, but this is a close second.

reply

What's NOROI like? Is it like REC or does it go down the Paranormal Activity route? x

Blair Witch is the best. Not only it is the best, it stands heads and shoulders above the rest, it still retains that element of the unknown which no film has been able to replicate.

reply

I'm not sure if it's the best, but it's still a damn great film either way.

Stupid people always complain when anything artistic is presented to them.

reply

First for me is Blair Witch. It has a sense of realism about it that I don't think has ever been duplicated. The fact that a whole lot of people thought it was real when it came out is also damned impressive.

#2 would be Cannibal Holocaust. It actually has something to say about not only about the perversion of the truth in the media but our attraction to that perversion. fascinating.

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

reply

Nah I'd say Chronicle has been the best found footage film these past few years

reply

BEST found-footage yet is Trolljegeren. 'Nuff said.
