[REC] + Quarantine - RANT

Predictable and incredibly annoying. "What's going on?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!" x1000 = annoying. Extremely annoying. Asking all these redundant questions. You're all locked in the building together, how come YOU don't know what the *bleep* is going on, huh?

Prepare for RANT. I'm going from end to beginning, but may jump around as I remember things.

God I hate that. Why is common sense completely absent of both these movies? Crazy people trying to eat your flesh and you let them wander about the building your locked in? *bleep* that, get me a weapon. You SUDDENLY remember there's a sewer escape route when you're at the TOP of the building? Does fear jog your memory? Speaking of memory, when they couldn't remember where the head resident guy lived, why didn't they just rewind the tape? No, they have to go down stairs to find his address. Waste of time. Eh, but it was cool to see the woman lying down and then suddenly she's standing, watching them.

It's incredibly frustrating trying to watch a movie, letting the tension build, when you have some dumb bimbo constantly asking stupid questions and or crying/screaming 80% of the time. "What's going on, Pablo?!" "What's happening, Pablo?" Blah, blah, blah.

Next, in the attic, why would you try to squeak by the zombie that doesn't know you're there? Bash that B's head in! Just grab something heavy and go to town. It was obvious that the girl was going to knock something over- forgiven because it was dark- and the zombie-thing was going to come after them. Why continue screaming? You've already established it can't see you. Stop screaming= it can't eat you alive. Simple.

Also, what happened to the boy in the attic? He just decide to stay up there and sit this one out? If he was a flesh-eater like the 5 second shot lead you to believe, it's not plausible that he'd just sit up there. That whole scene, in fact, was complete rubbish. Why would a zombie wait until the lens is on him to scream? The light? Wouldn't it make more sense if the light alerted the zombie to the cameras presense and then the boy grabbed Pablo's hand?

Next - Killing the zombies & the fireman. Wtf fireguy? It took you how long to kill the girl on the stairs? The first zombie you just snapped that guy's neck. You couldn't do that to the girl zombie who was practically placid in your arms? No, you have to bash her head in with a sludge hammer. Twice. :/ <-- This is a my *beep* face.

Towards the end everyone seemed to be turning pretty quickly. In the beginning it took a long ass time for anything to happen. Mutation or just impatience? I'd buy one turning quickly, since it was mentioned that different blood types are effected differently, but everyone suddenly? Nah.

I'll give REC credit for having the health guy cuff the infected guys, however, he should have cuffed BOTH of them at the SAME time. Not one and then the other a few minutes later. COME ON! I call BS. And again, four of you, one loose zombie. BASH his head in and be done with it!

Predictability - Once something totally off topic is mentioned, you know it's the major plot point/major detail to plot. I.E. "Oh, we just sent our dog to the vet. He's really sick." "My fatha is bery, bery sick." Racist ass dubbing for the Asians, BTW. Can anyone tell me if her dialogue is actually written how it was spoken in the dubbing?

I don't understand why you would approach the little girl when you know she's already turned. You saw how fast the M.A. guy turned, and he was a full grown man. Little girls turn faster. And if that isn't obvious, her spitting up blood and running off like a crazy person should have been a big clue. Cuffing mother to stairwell and then leaving keys with guy who's chasing after little girl = dumb. It's more logical to leave the keys with the person who is staying with the cuffed person, am I right?

And when the cop was getting attacked, what the hell was the camera guy doing? Was he getting a close up of the girl's face or was he trying to help? I couldn't tell.

Some good points:
It was hilarious when the fireman hit that old lady in the face.
The end of [REC] gave more background than Quarantine did. I liked that. I didn't like Quarantine's zombie idea at all. Rabies? Oh, *bleep* off. That being said, I don't fully know what [REC]'s reasoning behind the zombies is. If it's rabies, they can *bleep* off too.

Both Quarantine and [REC] sucked. Not scary at all. I was bored all through [REC], but I think that's more because I'd seen Quarantine beforehand and they were basically the same crappy movie, just with different people.

I'll be honest, I saw the trailer for [REC] 3 and really thought I'd found another "zombie" movie to get into. Of course I'd want to watch the first one instead of skipping. It didn't even dawn on me that this was the original to Quarantine until they sealed the building.

This isn't a rant on the movie per say, but more on the logical side of the movie. I want my movies to make sense and the actions of its characters to be logical. You can still make a good movie using good old fashion common sense, instead of having characters who do completely illogical things that leave me both frustrated and annoyed. This movie could have been a doll to watch but nope. I found the dead had more life than the living, and I couldn't wait for the living to die.

I'm still going to watch the other two. Well, if [REC] 2 reads like Quarantine 2, I'll probably skip right over that and go to three. Oh, and Quarantine 2 was WAYYYY better than 1.

P.S. - I skimmed through a bunch of Anti-American threads and I just have to say, as an American, I personally wish I had watched the subbed instead of the dubbed. I hate dubbed. I hate the generic English voices they use. I watch a foreign movie expecting the foreign language. If you're too lazy to read subs, don't watch a foreign movie. Children excluded.

P.P.S - If you're wondering why I watched the whole movie if I hated it so much, let me tell you,

1. I was hoping it would get better/scary.
2. I wanted to see if Quarantine really just "Copy & Pasted".
3. I knew 20 minutes in I was going to write a rant. If I'm going to bitch about something, then I'm going in 100%. As the saying goes, if you haven't seen it or read it, your opinion is INVALID.

And to those who liked the movie, good for you. You obviously saw something in it that I did not or could not see.

/rant

Only zombies star in zombie movies. Everyone else is fodder.

If you saw a dubbed version of REC,your rant is even more pointless. Will not ask why or hint at iletaracy but the whole feel of the film is elevated because of how natural they speak and thus seem to behave. It does have a documentary feel.

People in illogical, nightmarish scenarios tend to forget details a relaxed moviewatcher obsess on. Quarantine was crap, recycling, didn´t feel found footage. REC is one of the best horrormovies made IMO,despite obvious hints like the dog at the vet and sick girl. ith logical gaps, yes, mostly cause a guy will hold on to his camera not to just dear Life but everyobody elses pass the Point where it´s just great news and of course, only to be our Eyes in the building...but I can accept that.

In a horror movie?

Logic and horror do not mix. Characters behaving irrationally is a staple of the genre (that was pretty much the entire premise of The Cabin in the Woods. This goes double for found footage horror movies, where you also have to account for the fact that the guy with the camera keeps on filming even when being chased down a corridor by something that's trying to eat him.

I mean you're right. But like the OP I almost did a double take at the actions of some of the characters: E.G. One character just about cuddling the little girl zombie and somehow bizarrely not expecting to be bit, after seeing what has already occurred. It's all you can do to shake your head and stifle the giggles.

You just lost all credibility.

I get where you are coming from with the common sense of the story, you have to take some things into account.

1) Zombies are not real. If a Zombie suddenly turned up in my house, despite watching a tonne of Zombie films, I wouldn't know what to do. The same with the characters in this film. They don't know that the people are zombies, they believe they are just ill, hence why they don't go around killing the residents. By the time they realise that there is a a big problem it has gotten too out of hand to do any real damage.

2) You mentioned that no one picked up a weapon and killed the Zombies. Actually..they did. But it had no effect on them. They reanimated after a certain amount of time.

3) They didn't kill the girl in the attic because they were petrified and thought it would be safer to hide away until it went. They didn't have a weapon anyway so I would have probably done the same. Not to get all psychological on you but people have different responses to fear. Some do fight, but others freeze/run away (This is called Fight or Flight).

4) I can't think of a reason as to why all the residents suddenly starting turning more quickly, but due to the number of zombies increasing, the residents were probably attacked worse and thus, turned more quickly (as they would have had less blood in their system, and the infection would reach their vital organs quicker), especially as they didn't have a doctor to treat them at this point, unlike before on the two cuffed men.

5) I can't remember what happened to the boy in the attic (I haven't seen this film in a while) so i can;t comment on that. But if you ever watch Rec 2 it has more of an insight into the behaviour of the zombies, they aren't typical mindless beasts.

6) Dear god, why did you watch Quarantine first? Its a *beep* rip off of Rec. I suggest you get rid of Quarantine and watch rec and rec 2 a few times and hopefully you will learn that Rec is a fantastic, well-made horror film as opposed to its American copy cat.

Well... They don't react the way you want, they react according to their own personalities. Cops and firemen and people in general might be a little different. In Spain a regular cop and fireman might not be trained for that amount of s***, I'd say.

I saw Quarantine when it came out, but have only just watched REC. I found REC to be quite realistic. Hollywood seems to have blinded us to how ordinary people really act when they're scared and stressed ... we generally either freeze up and close our eyes and hide, or we run around screaming hysterically. or we cry or shout and ask the same questions over and over. basically, we go nuts. the actors in REC didn't even know what would happen to their characters until they shot the scene, so they were constantly on edge and anxious, and the night-visions scenes were shot in total darkness, so I loved their real reactions.

also, the reporter is a real TV reporter offsceen, and reporters really are THAT annoying. ;)

1. There was no evidence it was going to get better, but more annoying with the screaming reporter and shaky camera. I thought in the beginning she was okay, but then you realize she does the same thing throughout except become more hysterical.
2. I won't watch Quarantine. See my answer above.
3. Ha ha.

Yeah I think most of your 'complaints' are justified. (even though I do not agree with all of them mind you)

These movies do suffer from the usual clichés you often find in these movies. The most common one being knocking something over when they're trying to sneak past something. Or going towards the creepy sound instead of running the hell away like ozzy osbourne from a bottle of shampoo. Not to mention my personal "favorite" cliché; yelling 'hello? is someone there?' whenever a character hears a sound behind him. What do you expect to happen? Lionel richie popping his head from the shadows singing 'hello?! is it me you're looking for?'..

Tbh, you see these clichés so often it becomes rather annoying and predictable to the point were the movie is semi ruined even though its not really a bad movie in its own merrit.
