No doubt, there are similarities between Bend It Like Beckham, 'Billy Elliot, and CODA. However, I do find one significant difference, in 'CODA' the parents unsupportive due emotional and economic reasons. Economically, they struggle financially and cannot afford a salaried employee. Emotionally, they find it challenging to integrate into the hearing society, and the daughter gives them a sense of security by navigating societal interactions on their behalf. They don't have anything against singing as a profession for their daughter.
in Billy Elliot and Bend It Like Beckham it's social and cultural saint. Both main characters in these movies deviate from accepted gender roles in their culture, effectively rebelling against the established norms. Ruby's parents, in comparison, are much more liberal. Their reluctance stems from practical reasons, such as the family's economic situation, and psychological factors, possibly a form of Separation Anxiety.
