why did it bomb?
I don't get it. There were enough commercials and people knew about it.

Cus people don't love rock and roll anymore.Personaly I loved this movie but I guess people don't care about small time people making it big anymore, they just care about fart jokes and nickalodeon.

Because it failed to move its audience, emotionally.
shareuh school of rock didnt bomb.i donno where u get ur info from.its budget was $35 million and it made $131,282,949 worldwide.
shareI think the reason this film bombed is because the critics like to crap on people and make bad comments about their movies. If I were a critic, I'd definetly give this film a 10.

My thoughts are my opinions, so shut your holes if you don't like them.
it bombed because it was *beep* - unlike school of rock which is actually very entertaining. there is no comparison.
'Forget about it.'
I just don't think it was promoted properly. I saw the commercials for it and thought "Wow, that looks stupid." Then I watched the movie on HBO, and it was pretty damned good. I think if they had focused the advertising on the music and less on Fish's goofy antics, it would have been a lot bigger.
Others, however, will call me the world's sexiest killing machine, who's fun at parties.

I found this funny and the lack of "sex" jokes actually made it more enjoyable. I can definitely take those kind of movies, but movies that rely solely on them (Superbad for example) are just a laugh once and forget it forever.
School of rock was just pretty lame in concept, plus I don't care if I never see another Jack Black movie.
the movie sucked. it was unnervingly corny

Well, I loved it, and I never even heard of this movie until it came to cable. Oh well, its one of those things. Office Space bombed at the box office and became a humongous hit on cable/DVD. Now this movie won't make it that big, but at least people are starting to recognize it.
shareI definetly like School of Rock more than I like this.
Also, am I the only one disappointed with the music in this movie? It's about a washed-up rockstar who has a chance to go back out on the road with these kids... and they play alternative/pop music? I think it would have been cooler if the kids actually rocked out.
JOIN THE METAL MILITIA: FIGHT AGAINST MODERN MUSIC (RAP/POP/EMO)
Because of a combination of terrible music passing off as 'amazing', mediocre acting, poor writing, some heavy and obvious, yet inferior 'influence' from School of Rock, humor that does not suit the general audience (the John Lennon line comes to mind), and Rainn Wilson. Not to mention the ludicrously moronic introduction when he runs down Vesuvius.
The movie, as a whole, was watchable. But it was also in no way a good movie by quality standards. It wasn't even really that decent. Average is the best word you could use for this and sound accurate.
It was pleasantly goofy enough and far from lame, but the elements just didn't add up to a commercial success. Rainn Wilson is capable and accomplished, but he isn't a box office draw. There's nothing wrong with being a strong supporting character actor. . that would seem to be his calling.

"Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."
I agree with some of the folks above. I never heard or saw any advertisements about this movie. Just caught it on cable and loved it. I also laughed at the references to the '80s, like when Vesuvius first heard they were going to get a big record contract Fred Armisen's character, Kerr, says "Yea, I'm gonna get a Fiero!" If anybody remembers the Fiero car, which was the ultimate "fad" cool car back in the '80s until they had to recall them for catching on fire while idling, they would have definitely laughed. Overall, I thought Rainn did a great job turning it on and off throughout the movie and I can't compare him to Jack Black because I got sick of Black's nutjobishness about 10 years ago. With its fast pace entertainment and with surprisingly no toilet humor, I would highly recommend "The Rocker" to anyone, young and old.
"Wow the camera does add 10 pounds to you."
"Yea, the camera and food."
