So cyguration is an ass cancer?

His thread has too many replies

I don't know about you, random reader, but I did not come to Moviechat to read pseudoscientific theories on how sexual orientation is determined postnatally. I came here to talk about movies

If this movie wins an Oscar for Best Picture, then I can only assume that this jackass will use this as "evidence" for his gayness conspiracy theories

reply

You are right, moms watching films like this releases prenatal hormones that turn the fetus LGBT.

reply

Yup, that's science

reply

Happily, cyberboob is no longer with us.

reply

Cyberbob - I'm with you - the name of this site certainly does not live up to the content of posts here.

reply

Yup. Based on your username, I'm sure you will agree with my sentiment that this site is a huge disappointment for those who would rather talk about movies primarily, if not exclusively, on their artistic merit and not based on whatever political current events bullshit people here seem to focus on

reply

Yeeesssss! I'm so sick of the politics, I would love it if we didn't have to see the words 'woke' and 'libtard' ever again on this site. Now that we're dreaming . . .I'd like a pony.

reply

I would settle for never having to listen to someone explain to me why white people deserve to have their own special country. I've had three different posters explain to me why white nationalism isn't racist

reply

The same reason why black, brown and yellow people have their own "special" countries. Why is being white a terrible thing to you lefties?

reply

IMDb or Internet Movie Data base, had multiple chat rooms to talk about other things than movies. there is not enough traffic here to successfully talk about movies. I finally got a reply to a post after 3 years.

reply

You learn to put a LOT of people on block! lol

You all seem to be forgetting what the imdb boards were. They were exactly this. Movie talk and also stupid fights and judgemental viewpoints.

Therefore, moviechat is perfectly emulating the imdb boards, so it’s actually working exactly as intended.

My own opinion, and I’m also a true movie fan myself, is that we should enjoy what we have for what it is. Take in the gorgeous view together with the bad smells - sorta thing.

reply

I don't recall the IMDB boards to be this bad, though I could be wrong.

To me, the inclusion of politics on this board only allows the arguments and divisiveness to continue and flourish. Then, it just grows and keeps on going spreading garbage all the way down.

At the least, the site should remove anything non-entertainment-related from the trending page. I do not seek out the political junk and have only responded on the topics from the trending page (and mostly have even stopped that).

Then, there are the idiots that just post crap to post crap - stuff that really has no sort of point other than a person trying to obviously garner attention. I almost would like to see the board allow you to just highlight a thread and delete it from your own screen so you don't have to see the garbage.

This is the exact reason why the imdb boards were shut down. The developers decided it took too much effort to moderate, compared to the returns they were getting from that section of the website. I doubt these other developers that picked up the torch are willing to commit to something like that. I expect things to keep going the way they are right now. So I guess we’re going to have to just make our way through these threads avoiding the cancer as best we can and enjoying the good moments we get.

Commentaries similar to cyguration’s is why the IMDB message board was shut down in Feb 2017. It had gotten so political and full of hate and lacked any real meaning, even threatening people. And then moviechat.org is what we are left with. IMDB message board was one of the most brilliant places to find out and talk about movies. I started looking up stuff and commenting back in 2000 - so in those 17 years for me, it went from resourceful to pure hate. Some remarks turned it into this horrible and ugly place with horrible people talking. I think the one at the time was remarks made around the movie Moonlight.

IMDB closing statements: “The company claimed the decision was made because the boards were ‘no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.’

….Often, the boards only seemed to exist for people to bash others’ dissenting opinions, or thoroughly trash the TV or movies being discussed, no matter how critically acclaimed or generally popular. At their worst, they would delve into other sorts of offensive commentary, or even racist remarks.”

If I remember correctly there was an "Ignore this user" option on IMDB, once checked, anything posted via that user name did not appear in my feed.

This site is not well known. I often view films that aren't new or are independent -- few of those have discussion threads here, whereas on IMDB even obscure movies had comments.

reply

There are no discussions for a lot of good movies. IMDB was a better website. At least people saw the movie before commenting. I wasn’t aware of the “ignore this user” option. I would have used it on the one I had with a poster on Nocturnal Animals.

Btw. Power of the Dog was a very good movie but Brokeback was exceptional. Ledger was exceptional. You can’t compare the two really.

reply

The movie Brokeback Mountain (05) attention from Hollywood is a fine example of social engineering.

Seventeen years later you can say that the social engineering experiment was successful. Attitudes toward homosexuality has changed dramatically, in part due to this film.

Is this movie just another social engineering experiment to change toxic masculinity? I think so. Only time will tell if Hollywood's efforts to tap down man's more aggressive instincts..."dominering ways" would be a better way to put it.. will prevail.
