CUMBERBATCH as a rough, tough rancher!?!?!

Worst miscasting of the decade. If this effete British pansy is seen as a rugged westerner by Hollywood, truly, masculinity as we knew it is dead.

Edit: OK turns out the rancher is gay. Makes it a LITTLE more believable, but not much.

reply

Yeah apparently the film is about TOXIC masculinity and oppressed sexuality.

OH NO NOT TOXIC MASCULINITY NOOOOOOO!!!

reply

I wish I had a nickel every time someone on the boards reacts to the actor as if he is one of his characters. It's called acting.

reply

However, there are certain types of actors that suit certain roles. Putting Cumberbatch in a tough cowboy role is like casting Pee Wee Herman as Rambo.

reply

To be honest I would pay to see a Pee Wee Herman Rambo movie.

reply

Closest thing we have so far is Adrien Brody in Predators.

I never noticed that before, but now I see that picture and it is hard to unsee it.

reply

On paper it’s offbeat casting but he’s superb - perhaps his best performance to date. Sometimes the less obvious choice is the better one.

reply

He is always superb. Superb! Do ya hear me? SUPERB.

reply

You sound like his character. You'll love it (if you miss the point of the movie)

reply

If you'd actually watched it, you'd see how wrong you are. He's hardly recognizable as Cumberbatch.

reply

He was great in this film

reply

What it comes down to is acting and Cumberbatch was fully convincing as the rancher.
(I admit that when I first saw him as Sherlock Holmes I thought he couldn't play anything else)

reply

He looks a bit like DDL from far away. Good actor.
