People complaining about Carey Mulligan's looks

Okay, so I don't think this girl is very attractive, she'd be cute at most, but I can't understand why so many people are making angry and hateful comments about her looks. If you were to criticize her personality, or her acting, that would be justified, because those are things you can CHANGE. An actress should be criticized for her bad acting, but she can't change her face! Her face is her face, it's what she's got, there's not much she can do about it.

The only people complaining about Mulligans looks are fanboys who think Megan Fox is "hot" and should have been cast in the role. Megan Fox has already had a facelift, a boob job, a lip job, botox and god knows how many cosmetic procedures. Shes just another insecure talentless bimbo in Hollywood.

I find Meghan Fox somewhat unattractive and Carey Mulligan pretty
darn unattractive.

"Her face is her face," but that's kind of important for an actress. People don't want to shell out $10 or invest two hours of their time watching an ugly leading actress.

Besides, her acting was abysmal apart from her homely looks.

reply

I agree that in the movie industry your looks are important, and I realize that good looks have a lot to do with "making it" in show business. But there are many talented actresses who are not the most attractive based purely on physical looks, but their acting talent makes people want to watch them.

As for Carey, the only two movies I've seen in which she has a big role are Wall Street and An Education. I agree that in Wall Street she was not the best, maybe her character has something to do with it because I really couldn't stand watching her. But in An Education I thought she did pretty well.

Regarding people not wanting to sit and watch an "ugly" actress, I guess that's up to the movie producers who choose to cast her.

Noel Beck who had a very small part should have gotten the female lead, she was also on a Law & Order SVU rerun on USA the other day

rofl wtf? No she shouldn't have. Noel Beck is 42. That would make NO sense at all.

reply

My mistake but Noel is better looking.
Talk about no sense how about the recent older Robin Hood and Maid Marion?
That was just plain stupid

you know, you're right. I'm guilty of the Carey M. trashing as well and I know it's a bit unreasonable and I would never be that mean to someone in real life. And I think my issue isn't with her personally it's with the Hollywood attitude itself. What annoys me is how the Hollywood machine tries to force certain untruths down your throat. In this case, it just became SO annoying to watch those award shows etc. and those people in the media and her acting cohorts to go on and on about how pretty she is and even in An Education, comparing her to Audrey Hepburn??!!! And I hear she's gotten the lead in a My Fair Lady sequel. I mean it's just being taken too far. She is not a gorgeous girl by most people's standards but she is talented and will go very far. And not all actresses get this treatment. Emily Watson is one of the finest actresses out there and she is by no means pretty and no one pretends and goes out of their way to praise her looks. So I don't understand why Carey M. gets that kind of treatment.
So no more Carey Mulligan is ugly comments from me I promise.

most people are ugly.

All of this is silly

I think she's cute when she smiles. I'm glad everyone disagrees. Means less competition.

reply

Wow, surprised by all the posts about how 'ugly' she is. I thought she was very pretty, much rather have her in a movie than another generic 20 yr old blonde girl we can't tell apart.

I would go so far as to say she's 'hot'...

"No it's not you, I just don't like having dinner... with people..." - Paul Rudd

reply

I would have to agree with you. I think she's hot too.

I think in real life, people like Shia and Carey would be considered good looking people. But the big screen raises the stakes to a way higher level. I do think she is a very talented actress. Sometimes I think Hollywood should use more normal looking people in film. Some actors and actresses are so attractive, you can't imagine them them in real life situations, and their beauty actually is distracting. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Connelly are good examples of this.

reply

But remember hollywood actors put on pounds of make up compared to regular people.

reply

I am all for normal people being cast in Hollywood but seriously if you were a wall street banker who was pocketing 7 figure bonuses wouldn't you have a more physically attractive girlfriend. Thats half the reason for being successful

reply

She is definitely not ugly and is even somewhat attractive/pretty in a "cute" sort of way. But I remember thinking when I first saw "Money Never Sleeps" that it seemed weird that Gordon Gekko's daughter was kind of plain looking. I mean, Gekko (Douglas) is a good looking guy, his wife (Sean Young) was hot, her boyfriend (Shia) is a good looking guy, so why have the daughter be kind of plain? The only thing I can think of is it was an attempt to be true to her character, who had a website that was interested in truth and social justice. Would it be believable that a hot, attractive rich party girl would actually be interested in truth and social justice? No, she'd probably be more interested in her clothes, jewelry, and trendy nightclubs. So have her be plain to make her character more believable, perhaps.

But the film had several questionable casting choices. Eli Wallach (who I like) was the one that really made no sense to me. He looked like he was about to keel over dead throughout most of the film, could barely speak coherently, and his bird noises/hand gestures were both confusing and annoying.

Shia, Brolin, and Frank Langella were good casting choices. Mulligan and Wallach had me scratching my head.
