Not for the Squeamish

My wife and daughter begged me to go see this even though I really didn't think it looked that interesting. 20 or 30 minutes into the movie, they both started to get sick because of the gore and demanded we leave. Apparently not the first time it has happened, because the theater didn't even question a refund.

reply

Sick in what way? Is it like Blair Witch type of filming or what?

reply

The movie is a love story centered around cannibalism. I'm guessing things get graphic.

reply

VERY!

reply

I mean, were they unaware of the plot? It tells you front and center with the title, at least I think so.

reply

As we were leaving the theater, I said to them "It's a horror movie, you were probably going to see gore." My wife's response was "I didn't think it would be like that!"

reply

Ok now I want to see this.

reply

it's not that bad.

reply

Lmfao

And now we know something about you.

reply

it's just a movie and not a very good one.

reply

The scenes I saw were pretty graphic even for me, and i can take a lot.

But hey, argue away if you want to. Thats what this site is for.

But what i dont like is gaslighting, which is what you are doing when you downplay the gore in this film.

reply

I personally believe cannibalism should not be portrayed on any sort of visual media since some sicko will be inspired to try it out. I would argue that criminal behavior should not be depicted in any sort of show or movie since some people would be encouraged by these shows to adopt a life of crime.

I applaud Jamaica's ban on entertainment that glorifies violence, crime, drug use, etc. Hollywood had a code that prevented immoral conduct from appearing on the screen but that ended forty years ago. I've met people who re-create moments from film and a cannibalism film could have disastrous effects.

that would apply to so many movie themes.

reply

So you’re a Nazi?

reply

Because nothing horrific happened in this world before radio, tv, film,
video games…
How can anyone be so naive?
The human race has been ripping its throat out since its inception.
Take a history class or read a book.

reply

I've been watching tv and movies for over FORTY years so I am not naive. I have seen firsthand how people are influenced by movies and tv. Classmates would come in with props from movies while people would perform the dance moves that they saw on the big screen. Performing dance moves from movies is harmless BUT replicating EVIL acts from movies will have real-life consequences.

The TWO articles below show plenty of movie scenes that inspired real-life tragedies.

I'm not worried about the average or typical person watching the shocking scenes. I'm worried about the stupid psychos who enjoy such scenes and want to emulate them in the real world. It takes some intelligence to read a book but any idiot can watch a movie or television show. Hollyweird and the comics industry had codes that they followed in order to produce art that did not harm society. Some of the codes may have been outdated but the entertainment industry could benefit from guard rails.

I watched a TV movie with a murder at the end, then a copycat murder happened locally a week later. People are influenced by mass media which is the reason companies spend so much money each year to advertise.

reply

Agreed. I posted a couple links in my response above showing real-life copycat murders/crimes. I definitely think that sex and violence should be toned down in movies, television and video games. Most people will not go out and emulate evil acts depicted on the screen BUT I'm worried about that ONE wacko who will do it.
