This movie sucked and had no redeeming quality despite its top notch team.
There is absolutely nothing redeeming about Jordan. The whole movie is one big narcissist shallow pitfall glamorize these deadbeats lives and we all know they left a lot out of Jordan's real pathetic life.
you are right. and i do feel that way about gangsters and the people who warship the characters in those movies and real life. but i’ll allow myself to be a hypocrite because i saw those gangster movies when i was younger and now they’re more memories and nostalgia.
but i escaped that airport bookstore job and i’m not as uptight about these things as i was when working there.
Would you say you’re now able to see the gaping moral difference between the financial grifters of TWOWS and the mass murdering psychopaths of Goodfellas?
i feel both groups and any corrupt criminal types contribute to hurting what could be an ideal society that thrives and gives people a chance for a good life.
I don't know if it's a poorly made movie or the subject matter itself just doesn't appeal to me, but I don't like this movie either. There's nothing appealing to me about Jordan Belfort, his minions, or the stock market lifestyle. It's shallow and pathetic. Watching these guys hang on the the market as if they're doctors in an ER fighting for a patients life. Belfort screaming at his employees from his microphone like some kind of cult leader. Them lapping it up. He throws some cash or a watch at the mob and they just go after it like rabid animals. I don't like people like that and I don't like watching people like that.
I'm also not a drugs guy. I don't think it's funny to watch people get so high they are drooling, pull out their dick, or literally can't even walk. It's just not an appealing lifestyle or type of person to me. Shoving bags of pills up their ass - which is one of the most pathetic things a person can do imo - not being able to get through a regular day job or board a plane without being high. Junkies are pitiful to watch. They don't make me laugh, I don't want to be like them or look up to them - even if they are rich. I like beer and wine, I don't have a problem with people who smoke a little, but outright junkies are gross people.
It is not supposed to make you laugh. This movie is about wall street culture. It is about a guy with average moral values corrupted by wall street then he went on corrupting others. That is the vicious circle of wall street. People refused to be corrupted by money and greed are unfit to work there.
This is what is happening everyday, it is hard to watch but it is the truth of this world. You might not want to know it but if one less person becomes the victim of wall street due to this movie then this movie has a reason to exist.
The Wolf of Wall Street is a 2013 American epic biographical black comedy crime film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Terence Winter, based on the 2007 memoir of the same name by Jordan Belfort.
In 1987, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) takes an entry-level job at a Wall Street brokerage firm. By the early 1990s, while still in his 20s, Belfort founds his own firm, Stratton Oakmont. Together with his trusted lieutenant (Jonah Hill) and a merry band of brokers, Belfort makes a huge fortune by defrauding wealthy investors out of millions. However, while Belfort and his cronies partake in a hedonistic brew of sex, drugs and thrills, the SEC and the FBI close in on his empire of excess.

There is a Julie Robert movie called "Mona Lisa Smile", where Julie Roberts played a arts teacher. She showed a painting not on text book to her students, who all read their text book cover to cover knows everything about art, and asked them:"Is this art?" and none can answer. Because those students do not know what art is without someone telling them.
This is not really a comedy, at least not to me, not even a dark comedy. Not really a satire or fiction either but it has those elements as well.
Do you really need other people to tell you what you should think about a movie?
I know this is supposedly a comedy, but this movie is just people screaming and drooling. Pothead humor can be funny, but I agree, I am out on making these losers look cool.
So... portraying people screaming and drooling is "making them look cool." Makes sense.
And let's not forget how "cool" it is to rat on your friends and then still go to prison and lose your fortune. Hells yeah, women want him and men want to be him!
