Blonde hotties do not fall in love with quiet, lanky kids; they go for the stars of the high school basketball team, the school's rock band etc. It's a fact of life, why is it inaccurate?

I think it's an inaccuracy to say that all stunning blondes go for jocks etc. Most blondes these days aren't even real blondes, they just want that "paris hilton" look and yearn to live that glamorous malibu lifestyle. Course young men see blondes as the ultimate trophy, which may explain why the reasons for your broad sweeping generalisation.
How many hot blondes have shy quiet types as there father? It's how women relate to lovers. He was a good looking kid, in law school, sexually experienced, and had a horse cock. LOL How is their attraction implausible?
If it was only one hot blonde, then I might say he got lucky, getting a date that's out of his league. But two hot blondes for this average Joe? Contrived and irrealistic.

I was talking about real blondes, particularly in this film. Common sense, along with my high school, college, party etc. experience, tell me that these blondes would have chosen someone else, not this kid. I mean he was not ugly or hopelessly shy, but in a real world environment, he's no match for these blondes.

Wow. You're right. An attractive young law student has two blonds fall for him in the course of several years. Thats so unrealistic I just might burn my DVD right now. Seriously. Did you start this topic because you've been rejected by blond all your life? And don't forget. This is Germany in the 1950's, not America in 2010.
"Did you start this topic because you've been rejected by blond all your life?"
This is the one dumb question I've anticipated since this thread started. The answer is: yes and no. Rejected by some blondes, wooed by other blondes -- possibly fake blondes, come to think of it. Not that my history with blondes makes any difference.

This is Germany in the 1950's and as such all the 'men' had died in the war or traumatized by the war. Leaving a large surplus of single women with no suitable men to latch onto.
What has the two girls hair colour got to do with it? So they were blonde, is that really important? If they were pretty brunettes would it be more plausible? Ridiculous.
And Micheal knew how to talk to girls and women from his relationship with an older woman, Hanna. When all the other boys in the class were too scared and nervous to talk to girls he was not, he had no problem approaching them. He actually had confidence which girls like and so it is not far-fetched that TWO blondes like him thoughout how many years.
No, I didn't read the book. I presume Michael was more jock-like & assertive in the book. To me, he came off as awkward & quiet in the film, and I found it unrealistic that 2 very pretty girls (blonde, brunette, whatever) would fall in love with THIS guy.
David Kross is a good actor and he blended in perfectly in Knallhart, but I think he was miscast here -- or the bombshells.

I see plenty of hot girls fall for ugly guys - also, those girls were mediocre at best and he wasnt that bad looking - and over the course of a few years to have 2 girls interested in him is not crazy - if there were 10 girls that were into him, I would agree with u - but 2? I just don't see ur logic
What's with the personal remarks here?.. Yes, "I have luck" with girls, including my current gf as previously mentioned. This thread's not about me, it's about perceptions in college life and life in general.
--- "Don't just DO something, STAND there!" Pastor Charlie Bing
Fair enough. So let me revise my comments...if you understood women better, you would understand why Michael was lucky. That is, why he is appealing to them.
Besides, blonde women in Germany are not rare, so his chances are greater to begin with.
And what's being blonde got to do with anything anyway?
Simple - a girl can sense when a guy is gonna be dynamite in bed, and that instantly makes him attractive, regardless of how shy he might be. Michael had months of experience with an older woman and it probably came through in his demeanor or the way he carried himself. Of course those girls would want to take a turn.
I wonder how long it will take to realize that this movie was not set in modern times... and that the standard for what women look for in a man (and vice versa) has changed a LOT since then?
Really, you have to give us girls more credit. True, some of us would go with the shallow, atlethic jock types, but if I could choose, I'd pick Michael everyday, even if he wasn't as cute as in this movie. Quiet, intelligent, cultivated, kind of hard-to-get... oh yes.
That said, we all have our preferences and if you've got yourself a beautiful girlfriend, good for you! Just don't assume that ALL pretty girls go for guys like you.
Sorry if my english isn't perfect, I'm swedish (and a blonde.)
Recently watched The Reader, and I'm sorry to tell you, kid, but the two young blonds weren't all that. Okay, I'll admit that the first blond was very pretty, but the second one as average at best. The second girl was actually kind of ugly, with a slightly misshapen head, and funny-looking facial features. Okay, now I'm just being vicious and mean-spirited, but I have to make a point.
"I'm a fairly good-looking dude with a cute gf"
Translation: "I'm average or below-average in looks, and my gf is a 5 at best, but I have to talk myself up a bit just like everyone else does."
What the hell does hair color have to do with anything? It's just a physical look, it doesn't make somebody who they are. All people are different with different opinions, preferences whatever. So these girls going out with him is not unrealistic at all.
