Who do you really enjoy watching on this show?

I am fairly new to this show, and have been watching it since last month I have just started Season 5 episode 2. Couple of episodes an evening. One thing I have enjoyed about this show is the large number of characters it portrays.

I just would like to know who are all of your favourite characters, and why?

Arya and Jon were favorites of mine

Hot pie was probably the smartest person in the show, when everyone got stabby he went right to the kitchen and baked like a fat madman

I loved the sheer scale and scope of it. It looks amazing which reflects the amount of money HBO threw at it. Many of the actors and actresses are first class although funnily I would include only a few of the main characters in that category. But as far as the story lines went the longer the show went on the more I grew to dislike it. Let's face it as far as the story goes this is television to slit your wrists by, just relentlessly awful.

My favourite characters were Davos, Shireen and Margaery Tyrell because they were good-hearted and kind.

Tyrion and Daenerys.

I used to sit up and smile when I saw certain characters, I just didn't know what they'd say or do next! Well, until S8 anyway.

Tyrion Lannister!
Olenna Tyrell!
Jamie Lannister!
Brienne of Tarth!
Margery Tyrell Baratheon Baratheon Baratheon (Lannister)!

And in the later seasons, Cercei really grew on my, she became a terrific villainess, someone I loved to hate.

Thanks all for the great responses.

I think I love all the starks. I also loved the Blacksmith Arya's friend. Stannis's son. I loved Tyrion, Jamie and Tywin Lannister. I started to love Dany, but think she turned odd in the end. I thought Davos was a good, kind man. I loved Iain Glenn's character and really miss Robb Stark so badly it hurts. I also love the chemistry between Brienne and Poderick. There were also a lot of underrated small parts that actors played who rarely get a mention. It was also sad to see so many strong, great characters killed off so early. I am really into this show now.

Tyrion Lannister had a lot of the best lines.

Olenna Tyrell probably had more great lines per minute of screen time, but then, she had about a tenth of his screen time.

I can't overestimate how awesome Tyrion was in the show's early seasons, how entertaining he was, how I'd perk up whenever I saw him and wait for him to say something awesome... and he delivered, episode after episode and year after year! Plus he was hugely useful to the show, his attitudes were more modern than the other characters (he wasn't just the smartest, he was the one who believed in finding solutions other than sword-fighting, and who believed that dwarves and whores were people, too). Because he was an outsider who believed what we believed and who was an outsider in every company, even his own family, we could identify with him... and that drew us into this strange and brutal world, where we could easily be turned off by the violence and Medieval attitudes.
