Terrible strategy?

Wouldn't it have made more sense to dig three trenches filled with some sort of oil around Winterfell, and then put all men/defenders on the walls? And possibly even make Winterfell a deadly maze, with choke points around every coenrer. And fire everywhere. The dead burn fast. Terrible idea to meet such a deadly enemy outside the walls. Enemy that does not tire, that has no morale. They still tried to fight them conventionally. Any army would have been defeated by the forces defending Winterfell in other circumstances. Any living army...

it reminded me of Starship Troopers with how ridiculous they were.

One terrible strategy is simply being too lazy to scroll down a few threads to see if this topic already exists, and then post a comment on it instead of starting a new thread:

An no, there wasn't nearly enough time to dig three trenches. Also, does "oil" even exist in Westeros?

I said - some sort of oil. Whale oil etc. Whatever they used to burn lamps. Ffs, use your imagination, you limp prick.
