Any other British Movie Suggestions?

From the professionals themselves, I have seen FAQ About Time Travel, and loved it, as well as Death at a Funeral...oh and also a huge Python fan. Any suggestions on other British Film that would be good?

reply

I haven't seen one recommended that I would suggest - Confetti. Also check out A Fish Called Wanda.

Anything with Simon Pegg, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later are a good watch.

Lots of good suggestions in his thread, bit of a mixed bag though, from straight up comedies to pretty full on drama:

For comedies (with a smattering of drama in places):
Shaun of the dead, Hot Fuzz, Lock stock, Snatch, Rock n Rolla, Kick Ass (yes it is British), Confetti, Run fatboy run (not quite as funny as other Pegg stuff), Dog Soldiers, In Bruges, The Commitments and the daddy of them all - Withnail & I (I defy anyone not to have at least 5 classic lines memorised by the end credits).

For Dramas/ Thrillers/ Horrors whatever (with the occasional smattering of comedy:
Dead Man's Shoes, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Sunshine, Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, The Descent, Children of Men....... sorry I'm starting to bore myself! There are lots.

There are plenty of pub heavy sit-com type shows too like Gavin & Stacey (amazing!), Spaced (very big on Sci-Fi & film references) and The Mighty Boosh. Shameless is slightly more of a funny drama than an all out comedy and Being Human sounds like it should be a sit-com (warewolf, vampire & ghost flatsharing) but is also quite dramatic in between the laughs.

If you liked this particular film's focus on deadbeat blokes who sit around in the pub putting the word to rights and have amazing and unexpected adventures in outrageously banal settings then, once you've finished the Hitchhiker's Guide series of books, check out any book you like by Robert Rankin - they are all very reminiscent of this film, it's right up his street and the titles alone will keep you smiling for a while; Raiders of the lost car park, East of Ealing, The Sprouts of wrath, Nostrodamus ate my hamster, The dance of the voodoo handbag, Hollow chocolate bunnies of the apocolypse - to name but a few.

I'm surprised no ones yet mentioned what's almost certainly the best British SF film of the last couple of years or so: Moon...

This is England
Harry Brown
Billy Elliot
Fawlty Towers (series - but if you'er a Python fan, you probably know it already)

OP< here's one that is delicious and VERY nasty: "The Young Posioner's Handbook". The Brits do these so well!

Film: Pirate Radio, Son of Rambow, The Full Monty, anything by Terry Gilliam, Gosford Park, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Little Voice

TV: Red Dwarf, Extras, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Doc Martin, The Catherine Tate Show, Jeeves and Wooster, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Fawlty Towers (especially if you love Monty Python), Hyperdrive, The IT Crowd

Second "The IT Crowd“. It's not a movie, but each episode is short and can exist con its own. It's a very funny sitcom with geek elements like FAQATT and has Chris O'Dowd in it.
