Great show. Not usually a binge watcher, but watched the last 8 eps in one go. One thing that bothered me though...

I finally got around to watching this recently and just finished it. Glad I did. It's one of the best series I've seen, however some things that happened as it neared its end were just a little too implausible. I was able to go along with most of Walt's moves and plotlines to that point, but I had to question some things at the end.

Hank being determined to bring Walt to justice made sense for a lot of reasons, but once he got a full confession from Pinkman, you'd think they'd have been able to make an arrest. OK, there wasn't a smoking gun yet, but there was a lot of evidence to confirm Pinkman's story, like the Walt Whitman book, not to mention Skylar would probably have started talking once she saw that they had Pinkman. And if they recorded the call between Pinkman and Walter (and why wouldn't they?), they would have had their hard evidence. Why not call in reinforcements at that point, since they had him dead to rights?

The only thing I can think of is that Hank was determined to put the cuffs on Walter himself. Hank had a fairly big ego, but he wasn't that stupid. He knew Walt had found a way to have ten different witnesses whacked in prison at the same time, among other things. At the very least, someone as savvy as Hank seemed to be would have thought to hide some of his strongest evidence away for his friends in law enforcement to find in the event he was killed.

There were a couple of other things like that, but the one that bothered me the most was the Nazi leader not only letting Walt get away, even though Walt could incriminate him. The gang leader didn't really know for certain whether or not Hank and his partner had left behind something that might lead the DEA to Walt. Yes, it turned out that Hank had left everything in his house and they were able to get it all, but they didn't know that, then. But on top of that, they generously give him back about ten million dollars. Yeah, his nephew wanted him to do that because he liked Walt and I guess saw him as a father figure, but I still found it very hard to believe considering everything the Nazi leader had done to that point.

Anyway, a great show. It just seemed like they'd written themselves in a corner a little bit, and their characters ended up doing some out of character things to get them out of it.

Too bad Walt died, not from Cancer he had the entire series, but from a stray bullet from his contraption in his trunk while shielding Jesse because if it weren't for that, Walt would've kept the 90 Million dollars

reply

Yeah. At least the Nazis didn't get it. Walt really hated to lose.

When does this show get really good? Over the years I tried to watch it and stopped a few times a few episodes in. But everyone keeps telling me that once you get into the middle of season 1 you will be hooked. I just finished season 2. It's good, but I wouldn't say I'm hooked.

Stick to Michael Bay movies then. It’s more your speed

love how that always comes out as a first insult. I've never seen a Transformer's movie. I don't need action. Just not connecting to the characters yet.

I felt the same way when I watched up until the explosion stunt with Tuco. After that, it became more watchable for me.

When I think back at the shows I've enjoyed most, it's almost always because I was able to watch, enjoy, and discus with the wife or the rest of the family. Shows that I watch alone aren't as engaging for me. My wife and I binge watched this one and it was one of the better shows we've watched together.

I liked it immediately, and thought it just got better from there. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe it's not for you.

to answer my own question: Season 3.

I guess I benefitted from the fact that my son told me it was great, and respecting his opinion, I think I wanted to like it so much that I did. I thought Jesse's character and "Yo Bitch" was hilarious, and I really connected with him.

reply

Yeah, it's a terrific show. Best crime drama ever, hands down...

You should now watch El Camino: The Breaking Bad movie and Better Call Saul. The movie is pretty good but BCS is great entertainment. I don't think it's quite as good as BB but still very good. Its definitely worth watching.

" . . . the one that bothered me the most was the Nazi leader not only letting Walt get away, even though Walt could incriminate him."

I suppose one could argue, using TV logic, that they weren't worried about Walt betraying them because Walt was in it up to his neck for several reasons and turning him in wouldn't save Walt from extensive prison time -- not to mention Walt would lose the money they left for him (which is why I suspect the leader left him a cut to begin with). Walt also wouldn't want his son to know about his criminality. And so on . . .

On the other hand, one could also argue that because of Walt's cancer (or was it still in remission when Hank was killed - I don't remember) he would turn them in out of love for Hank and not care about prison since he wasn't going to be around much longer anyway. In which case (and to your point) the Nazi leader would have killed him.

My thinking was that they shouldn't have hesitated to just kill walt like they had Hank and so many others. Your point about Walt not cooperating makes sense, though Walt could have given them up just to get back at them for killing Hank. I just don't think they'd take any chances.

WOW that's intense that you watched EIGHT episodes in one binge! I don't think I ever watched more than four.
