Diasappointed... Gave up after 3 episodes

I was looking forward to an HBO comedy about baseball. Wow was I let down. This was typical Will Ferrell garbage. Bad acting and potty humor. I don't have a problem with language. Entourage and The Sopranos are my favorite shows. But most jokes involve Kenny swearing in front of kids and teachers.

reply

You know the actors that were in it before going into it. You thought they would serve you anything other than what is typical of them?

LOL....

How could you expect a comedy mainly about "baseball" when the premise is of a washed up broke out of control ex baseball player having to take a job as a gym teacher where he grew up? Do you not know who Danny McBride, Will Farrell, is or that the creators did movies like "Observe and Report"? Soprano's or Entourage(which is awful) are not comedies so expecting a show like them but with baseball with McBride/Farrel from the creators of Observe and Report was totally unrealistic.

reply

Entourage is not a comedy??

"Bltch, what you DON'T know about me -- I can just about squeeze into the Grand xxxxing Canyon!"

reply

That's okay, the show isn't for everybody

reply

No, it a bro drama.

you're *beep* out!

I gave it one full episode, and that was enough for me.

Not a single laugh to be had, imo.

Also, I really really freaking hate Danny McBride.

Sigs suck, and so do people who use them.

Then what the *beep* do you people find funny? I swear to god it's next to impossible to get a good idea of what might be good or not on IMDB. There are too many people like this douche bag that expect *beep* Shakespearean dialogue in a *beep* baseball comedy. Look, I'm usually one of the first people to say "different strokes" or "everybody is different" but in this case it's ridiculous. If you don't find Eastbound and Down funny then you need to kill yourself, your PC way of thinking is ruining the world. Grow a pair of balls and stop getting offended by everything you see. That's the only way I could imagine someone would hate this show, if they are so easily offended by anything and everything that could be offensive to anyone on the planet.

Thanks for ruining this site, every *beep* movie you read about being reviewed on here always ends up being drug down by *beep* like "Oh my, I can't even begin to comment on the offensive nature of this movie because after the first 5 minutes I was offended so many times I had to put my Ipod headphones on. You would think that would make it better but I had to leave halfway through due to the awful camera angles and offensive posture of the lead actors.". You people aren't Roger Ebert and no one cares about your modern sensibilities and pc attitude.

Damn right!

Holy *beep* you just went the *beep* off! Lol i agree with everything, fantastic post.

Completely off the mark.

Your whole diatribe hinges upon the undemonstrated premise that people who didn't like this show were necessarily offended by it and that it's their sense of political correctness that is somehow at fault. It couldn't be farther from the truth.

One can dislike the show without having been offended by it, simply because it's not that funny and because the writing leaves a lot to be desired. Some of my favorite series/shows, comedic or not, are deeply politically incorrect, from Family Guy to South Park, passing by Utopia and Shameless, and their political incorrectness doesn't prevent me from enjoying them, on the contrary, that's why i sought them out to begin with! Why? Because they are actually funny and well written.

Also, unlike a lot of people, i always give a show one whole season before passing any kind of definitive judgment on it and i've watched the whole first season of Eastbound & Down + 3-4 eps of season 2 before realizing how redundant the writing was and how heavily it was relying on the same gimmick used over and over again: Kenny is crude, sexist, racist, egocentric and/or blatantly ignorant in public, mainly women and children, in order to make the viewer uncomfortable/cringe/giggle. Which is absolutely fine by me, as long as you are actually funny.
Unfortunately, more often than not, it is not the case in E&D.

And that's without even mentioning the bad acting by most, if not all, the secondary characters! His sidekick? His GF S01? Her fiancé? The Umpa-Lumpa dwarf sidekick? Ugh. Even McBride himself barely passes the bar i would say...

Now, all in all, i gave the series a 5 because i did indeed giggle genuinely along the way more than a few times, but not enough to warrant the high rating, nor the time i would have to invest for another season.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

Thank you! I know I'm a bit late to this thread/reply, but oh well.

I agree, just because someone doesn't find a certain show/movie/comic to be funny, that doesn't mean it's because they're being all "PC" and offended by everything.

Personally, I see "comedians" like Danny McBride or Bill Burr as one-trick ponies, whose only trick is being gross or offensive. My problem with their "humor" is that it's just simple, stupid, bottom-of-the-barrel shit that they repeat over and over because they're not smart enough to come up with anything that's actually humorous or clever.

There's no diversity in the characters played by actors like McBride or Ferrell or Rogan; they're just the same characters doing the same schticks that they've done in everything else they've been in.
I'll admit, I probably found them each funny the first time I saw them, but then it was like, "Oh, that's just the same character as that last movie, never mind."

Obviously humor is subjective, so I'm not saying that people who find this stuff funny are "wrong" or anything. But sometimes people just prefer smarter humor, and that doesn't mean that they're "too PC" or overly offended.
(Case in point: Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles")

It's not about being PC, it's just about preferring smart humor.
(And I'm pretty sure the whole "if you don't agree with me then you need to kill yourself" mindset is worse for the world than people just being bored with dick and fart jokes.)

😂 LOL. Quality! That's comedy gold right there...
