Why does everybody hate this show now?!

In 2007 to 2011, people loved this show and thought that it was the funniest cartoon on TV. But by 2012, people started to resent it, and outright despise it.

Almost everywhere I go, I see that people call this show repetitive, and comment on the show's art-style, and criticise it. And call the characters unlikeable.

Just why?! Why has everybody gone from loving it to hating it to a heartbeat?! An example is: When people mention the good modern cartoons, they instantly go out of their way to avoid mentioning this. Heck, even Olivia Olson gets more recognised as Marceline than Vanessa because people refuse to acknowledge her Vanessa role.

And another criticism is with the songs every episode.

This show has jumped on board with Taylor Swift, Adam Sandler and Pixar in which it got praise at first, but then everybody began to outright despise it.

Well if it makes you feel any better I still like it. I hope that they do something with Isabella and Phineas real soon though because it is driving me crazy.

I really don't understand how anybody feels about the show right now. I mean, it's been repetitive and have song since the very beginning. But the show has been proven itself it can switch things up differently.

I don't hate it but the more recent episodes are not very good. It's not that they're bad or anything, they just aren't funny and the ideas have gotten kind of stale or lame.

Heres my little theory, take it for what you will:
Since the show took so long to get on the air i'm sure they had a whole bunch of episodes really solid in their minds, which is why the show started out so good. Now as the show became popular they're having less time to work on the ideas and they're just falling a bit flat. This seems to be the case with a lot of shows and is why shows tend to decay after a few seasons.

I really wouldn't class the show as "repetitive". A lot of people seem to forget that the show was actually very diverse when it came out. It was not that reliant on the formula as most people would seem to remember.

The same people that criticise the show as a whole(for the most part), are mostly people that have decided to tune in last year or so and have seen a more recent episode, and judge the whole show as being "repetitive" or reliant on the formula. Certain episodes focused on Candace as well and showed a lot more to her personality than one would think. There were even episodes focused on Doofenschmirtz and Perry and showed that despite their differences, they are pretty good frenemies. It was this way until after the TV movie, and the medieval specials.

To me, the reason why the later/newer episodes are stale is due to loss of writing staff. A lot of people who brought the show to life(Martin Olson to my recollection isn't as involved with the show as he was in the beginning. He still writes the odd episode or song though, however) have moved onto other shows, namely Adventure Time and Regular Show, and that in my opinion has hurt the quality of the show.

I don't think it's completely terrible, but it's definitely not as sharp as it was when it came out.

reply

This show is still awesome. I don't know what people are thinking.

It isn't quite as sharp as the first 2 seasons. This happens with most TV shows. Sometimes you start running out of ideas for the characters to do. But still streets ahead of most stuff on TV, not just the kids stuff.

And I don't know why people complain about the music. That's their thing. it wasn't going to be, but it went that way, and I love it.

reply

The main reason:

The show now takes itself WAY too seriously, ironically. The Marvel comics crossover episode is a prime example.

That's always the main pitfall when something becomes popular and mainstream.

It's also just not that funny anymore. Some of the recent episodes are just lame e.g. Platypus Hunter, Bee Story, etc. They are running out of ideas, plain and simple.

Also, most of the characters weren't that likable to begin with, but now that we have had six years of them and NOTHING has changed they've crossed over into annoying instead of charming because people were willing to overlook those flaws in favor of the overall presentation.

I have even seen people compare this show to Johnny Test and the Fairly Odd Parents. Well Adventure Time and Regular Show have been much more successful than this show and people still love them.

Then why didn't people say that at first?!

reply

Ferris, they EVEN hate the older episodes now.

reply

I still love it, I enjoyed Stacey in the latest episode a great deal.

I just started watching this show a couple of months ago, and I just LOVE IT. I'm watching the older episodes now and I think the newer ones are WAY funnier than the older ones. (I especially enjoyed the one in which they parodied "Gagnam Star".) The older ones pale by comparison.

reply

Probably most people are jumping on the "everyone else says it sucks so I will too". Meanwhile they're secretly still watching it. My son started watching it on Netflix and I didn't like it much at first but then I started paying more attention to it and I find it hilarious! I love Doofensmirtz!

Did you see how popular this show was in 2007-2011?! People trended about it, and went on about how great it was and that it reminded them of the old Spongebob episodes. Hardly anyone complained about it and hated it until last year.

reply

Probably hating on it because it's the cool thing to do.

I stopped watching Phineas and Ferb regularly after the movie (which is one of the best movies I've ever seen) but there's really no reason to hate this show. I guess they feel afraid that the show has lost its cult appeal and has now sold out to the masses. This is why we can't have nice things.

reply

They seem to hate it because of Gravity Falls "being better".

It's like when people started to hate on Taylor Swift. Ironically as these things became more in the public eye, more and more people started to hate it. The reception of the Mission Marvel crossover is evidence that a vast majority despise PNF now.

Nah, that's coming from Marvel fanboys who CAN'T STAND their characters looking "silly".

I do think part of the problem with P+F now is the popularity of Gravity Falls mixed with the somewhat stagnating formula.

reply

It IS Gravity Falls' fault that everybody hates the show now. I knew it had something to do with that show.

reply

I think people realized Gravity Falls was new and relatively different from the shows that Disney usually produces. Once they did that, they started to resent Phineas and Ferb because it was five years of the same thing. The diversity was gone.

I'm pretty sure once a new, radical cartoon comes to take Gravity Falls' place, it'll go through the same thing.
