Compared to OTHER films by Michael Haneke.

And including of course the Austrian 1997 original "Funny Games"... where would you place this one, do you consider it arguably his weakest...

And compared to his other works, like "The Seventh Continent" (1989), "Benny's Video" (1992), "71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance" (1994), "The Castle" (1997), "The Piano Teacher" (2001), "Cache" ("Hidden") (2005), "The White Ribbon" (2009), "Amour" (2012) and "Happy End" (2017) if not also one or two others...

Where would you place this one?

P.S. Surprisingly, among the negative reviews, few reviews tend to come out and say "Inferior REMAKE" and it is being judged on its own terms and merits, but then, shouldn't the reviewers also see and compare it with the original one FIRST?

i would rate them like this:

cache
funny games us
the piano teacher
amour
funny games original
benny's video
the seventh continent
code unknown
the white ribbon

Forgot to add "Time of the Wolf" (2003) - Haneke's low-key attempt to tackle an apocalyptic genre.

that i haven't seen, & it doesn't seem to be available in the streaming world, at least not that i can see.

reply

I own it on DVD, as I do most of Haneke's films.

I've seen 6 of his films. I would likely rank this 4th. I think it is a very good film, even if it is not as good as the original or some of his films.

reply

Not to mention, it is so far at least, but then he is 79 years old today, his ONLY Hollywood film.
