I dont understand what the producers were thinking. She is too modern, her voice too husky, and those red lips and that ridiculous wig was distracting throught the whole flick. Her acting is wooden and stiff.
It seems like the "casting couch" was used in this case.
Jessica is perfect for the part who says husky voices and red lips weren't in during this time period. One thing I like about Jess is she's like Drew Barrymore they have the look that can be modern and old.
Sorry, but whoever thinks Jessica Biel was wrong for the role is quite mistaken. The 1920s were a breakthrough period for women in sports and there were many, many women in England, France and America who were sports stars and whose bodies were toned and buff. Look for photos from this long list of well known sports stars who were female, many of whom were admired and emulated:
It's a matter of opinion, not a right-or-wrong thing, so it's quite silly to say that anyone who disagrees with you is 'mistaken'. In addition, there are many reasons why people thought she was wrong for the part which had nothing to do with her figure.
I thought she was wrong for the part because she can't act, and she ruined every scene she was in. Personally, I think being able to act is a pretty major aspect of being right for a part.
It was a wonderful film, apart from Biel. It's not that she was terrible, but not convincing and yes the buff thing distracted me too! Also, when she was dancing and her bum was all out there while she was all, i don't know, not right for the era or the part.
Couldn't disagree more. I've long said that Biel's looks are distinctly modern, and distinctly American--which is why she is the perfect choice for this particular role. And her acting is better than any of her other performances I've seen. Still not great, but a tremendous improvement; certainly nothing to be ashamed of in this movie.
And "casting couch"? My, what a sexist little troll you are.
