Was Jessica Biel reading her lines?

I have rarely seen such an awful actress. At first I thought the bad acting was part of the comedy, but then realized it was *unintentionally* funny.

How can I tell these American actresses apart anymore? They all have the same nose job, lip job, veneers, and their forehead never moves. I'll watch Kristen Scott Thomas any day instead.

I just watched this movie and came on the boards to find this topic "which I knew would be mentioned some where on here,"and to see what everyone thought. I very rarely post here but had to once I finished reading the thread. So here goes my 2 cents.....

I really enjoyed the movie itself but I thought Jessica's performance was a little off. Initialy I thought this to be a product of a plain ole' poor performance but now I have cause to reconsider. (I must preface this by saying I think Jessica is a good, not great actress whose entertaining and generally average to VERY slightly above in most of her movies.)

I don't think she was just reading her lines or wooden as others have mentioned. I think she was trying to portray her role's dominant traits. (Strong, calm, determinded, independant, sarcastic, comfortable in her own skin, and fiercly unique but sensitive and human.) Now, if she pulled it off convincingly enough for all audiences is obviously up for debate. That being said I can see what she was attempting to do. I feel it probably could have been done a bit better but had she come in and acted as she did in her typical acting style she wouldn't have been able to pull it off even remotely. Let's face it, this isn't her typical genre. With all those factors considered I'd say she did a fair job. I certainly ascertained that she was attempting to showcase through dialouge delivery and body, the personality of her charater and IMHO she suceeded but not to the degree that someone else may have been able to.

I'd wager she put a lot of thought and care into her jaunt into unfamiliar waters. You can see her transition back and forth in the film from a very even flow of dialouge and seemingly natural speach at times, to what I deem to be concentrated effort/attempt on being reserved or speaking with confidant control. The end result was a little choppy and I don't think she succeeded enough of the time to avoid threads such as these.

I don't think her a terrible actress for it, just still improving as we all do regardless of our field. Let's face it who would've ever thought Tom Hanks from Bosom Buddies could have or would have ended up the dramatic king pin he is now? While I don't see Jessica headed that way or mean to compare her to that degree of acting talent; my point is that there are facets to every craft and she hasn't mastered this one yet but I appreciated and recognized the direction "I THINK," she was going for. I would and will watch this movie again as it was still an enjoyable watch.

Sorry for the looooong post, but just my 2 (kind of turned into 6) cents.

I couldn't concentrate on her wooden performance because I was transfixed by that simian mouth filled with horse teeth.

This whole film is a disaster on all counts.

Agreed. It was bad & Jessica was wrong for the part. It was also very predictable.

Then you have never seen an actually awful actress in your life.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

She was very good, did the role justice as she does in most of her work. She's not Meryl Streep, but it's inevitable that a woman as hot as that will get a lot of undeserved rubbish about her acting. It's predictable, boring and tiresome, and you'll find the same thing for Scarlett, Angelina and most other beautiful Hollywood actresses.

IMDb-boards would be less confusing if people would mark their signatures clearly.
