Watching Today...do you think its good / still holds up?
I never liked this show.
Watched every episode with a roll of the eye.

I watched the first 6 episodes of Season 1 years ago on Netflix & just couldn't get into it. I've been meaning to try again, because I've heard the later seasons do get better.
shareI watched one episode, when it was new. It seemed like "look, everybody's smoking!", "everybody's sexist!", "everyplace has cool mid-century modern decor!" It was too much of a comic book exaggeration of the time period.
shareHow could you forget the day drinking? LOL.
But yeah I get that's how it was but everything just seems so cliche.
That is how things were. Smoking was extremely common among men, to the point that you'd get a reaction if you didn't smoke. It was less common for women. And everyone back then definitely would be sexist by today's standards. I was born in '78, and nothing of what you mention seemed remotely exaggerated to me.
shareOne of my all-time favourite shows, yeah.
shareOn ep 3. Not sure yet. Funny to see old fashioned stuff.
shareI haven't rewatched the series since it originally aired, but I have great memories of it.
I began watching between Seasons 3 and 4... saw the first 3 seasons like in a month, then watched every single episode from season 4 until the finale on the day it premiered.
Throughout the show's run I always had this sense that something 'big or extremely clever' was going to happen but in the end I felt like it never really reached the point I was expecting it to get to so I did feel slightly unsatisfied.
Overall I would rate the show an 8/10.
My family and I switched to Roku earlier this month and I've been doing something the past couple of weeks that I never thought I'd do... watching "Mad Men" episodes again on AMC+ TV.
Here's my take on it ..I think the first four seasons are terrific and would put those seasons against any other show. I had forgotten somewhat how great so many of the episodes were from that timeframe. Even re-watching these, as a viewer, I still found myself hanging on every word and being so impressed by it. It's just very well done, IMO.
However, starting in Season 5, I think the show started slipping and continued to go downhill all the way to the end. There were still some excellent moments and episodes, but not like the first few seasons, IMO. Re-watching the series, it really is jarring how the show seems to shift the focus to Megan (I won't blame Jessica Pare, the actress who played Megan...to me, it was more about the character than the actress herself). It really does seem like Matthew Weiner had some sort of "obsession" with her. I liked the characters from the early seasons better than the ones from the later seasons. And I definitely don't like the way the series ended...in retrospect, it almost seems like Matthew Weiner knew what he wanted the final scene to be (I remember he mentioned that in interviews before the series ended), but he didn't know how to get there and I just feel like he really butchered the ending.
Just my $.02. I know some people loved the series from beginning to end and that's fine. However, for me, I definitely think there was a decline in the show... kind of a "What might have been..." vibe to it, starting in Season 5.
Yes it "still holds up" because it's set in the 1960s. I think shows done in present-day are less-likely to "hold up", depending on the show.
