Staying in the house was...

a super dumb move.

"So, what would you like to see on your honeymoon, Mrs. Cord?" "Lots of lovely ceilings."

reply

It really was. I blame it on the not very good writing.

reply

That's the only thing ruined it for me!

He obviously wasn't cash strapped so first thing he should have done after getting attacked on the street, move the family to a secret location, come back with loads of guns and BOOM!

That's what I would have done! And yes, with the power of vengeance I can imagine a person turning into a total bad ass!

Staying in the house was fucking absurd. Why? For the love of God! Yes they had plenty money. It was time to hit the highway. His decision to stay was just barely comprehensible to me if he actually had planned to leave in the morning and thought the cops outside would suffice for just one night. They never explained if they were leaving in the morning, but even that decision would be hard to comprehend. I would been gone right away

reply

Yeah, that would have been the safer option, but they had cops there. How would they know the cops would be so incompetent?

reply

Could have known it from the way they handled the sons murder.

The Hume family had the successful suburban mentality of "cops protect people and we live in a safe area anyway". Just like the lady detective sad to him "You really think you can kill some pissant punk and NOT have it follow you to the suburbs"?! She was giving a genuine warning that they still werent safe, so yes they shouldve left right then and there. But they trusted having a cop unit sit outside would keep the gang at bay.

One thing I learned from working security for 2.5 years is that when a life threatening situation arises you cannot rely on anyone but YOURSELF when it comes to saving your life.

I use to be naive as well, thinking if something happens you can call a cop and be A-Okay. Bad things can happen anywhere and it can follow you or show up in your "safe suburb community as well. You need to be smart, aware of your surroundings, and trust your gut instinct in life.

Its not even just this movie, I've seen so many movies and shows where people make mistakes and have to pay the price. In the real world people make bad choices, and so many times they CONTINUE to make bad choices knowing its wrong! You gotta know when to make changes in your like and stop wasting time with bad choices and bad people.
