The cancellation of 'Eureka'

It's no wonder that both the sci-fi channel and nbc are doing so poorly when the cancel shows like this. Eureka was a great show. Poor choice nbc, poor poor choice.

Yeah it is a shame, but to the network which is owned by a corporation they only care about what is profitable and makes them money. If something isn't making them money they get rid of it and replace it with something else that will.

An even more recent example is their decision to end G4-the once only channel that was dedicated to videogames. They have chosen to basically revamp it to a more GQ like channel-whatever that means. There was a time when NBC, which is still very conservative, made very bold steps with their channels to cater to several different tastes and now it looks like they have realized that this might have not been such a good idea.

As far as Syfy goes look forward to more of their original programming getting cancelled, which really sucks for Warehouse 13. In its place get ready to see more shows like Fact or Faked, Paranormal Files, and Viral Video Showdown since these shows cost very little to produce.

Actually, it was a joint effort by the producers of the show and the network. It was either cut the budget of the show (and therefore, the quality) or let it go. It was both of their decisions to let it go after the 5th season (which was in the middle of filming).

reply

That is not true. They were greenlit for another season. It wasn't a full order, but it was still another season. The cancellation came as as surprise to the producers, and Comcast only gave them 1 episode to wrap-up storylines.

reply

Whatever the reason, it's a shame to see imaginative, fun shows canceled in favour of reality TV.

reply

I hate all reality TV. I make it a point to keep up with what my 17yr old is watching, and unfortunately, she likes a lot of the Real Housewives, etc. kind of shows. It's too much for me. I can only hope this era will fade.

reply

No offence to any of the above posters but, if you prefer to bring up kids that can't think for themselves or otherwise be allowed to make a decision (they can't even cross a quiet neighbourhood street these days without a guard saying it is OK to do so), then you shouldn't be surprised when those same kids accept whatever it is that network TV tells them they should like.

That wasn't very sporting, using real bullets.

reply

What? My kids don't let TV tell them what they like. They just happen to find those types of shows funny. Your assumption that my kids "can't even cross a quiet street" is funny. You don't know anything about my kids other than they watch reality TV.

I did not sanction what my kids watch on TV with the exception of things rated NC-17 or above. I let them make their own decisions, and we discussed why they watched certain shows/movies. I don't see how any of it, including AI, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, etc. is worth watching. I think all reality TV shows should end, but to each his/her own.

Eureka is what got me interested in the Sci-Fi/SyFy channel in the first place. I'm less interested in TV in general now that Eureka's gone.

Cheese fries...next time.

NBC is the #1 network this season so far

G4 was never a good channel now techtv...that was awesome

I was watching another Sci-Fi based show (Terra-Nova) which was starting to develop plotlines and characters... & was cancelled after the 1st season...

reply

Terra Nova was dreadful though

I am scratching my head that the two networks didn't realize how cancelling this show was a mistake. First off good tv is hard to find second if I want reality I can cut off the tv and deal with life. Tv is escape. Fun and enjoyable. It's decisions like cancelling this show that make me stop watching networks all together and just put in a movie or pick up a good book.

While I'm still unhappy the show was cancelled, the ending episode was great. Everything tied up neatly....but not too tightly. Enough wiggle room to come back with a second run of episodes or special movie--if they maintain the quality.

I refuse to be outwitted by a 2-dimensional character in a cheap romantic thriller!
