To all the people complaining about Leto

You do realize that is downright hypocritical right, allot of the people (on this board) complaining, claim to be gay or transgender. I am straight but am fine with whatever you choose to be. However you must have know what its like to be discriminated against, "I was told I can do this because I was gay..."ext. So why do you say Leto can't ACT like a transgendder person in a movie because he is a straight male? That is heteroophobic. So I guess straight people can not play gay people, and gay people can not play straight people.
Also, how many transgender actors did you see at the Oscars (or in general?)There are not that many transgender actors and virtually zero famous ones. I would prefer a straight male turn in a fantastic performance then a transgender being hired just because they are transgendered and then turning in a mediocre performance any day.

There's people in every group, race, religion, lifestyle, sexuality, or whatever other segment that do stuff like this. They claim to want equality and fair treatment, but then only want someone to be give a role (a job) because they are gay or transgender. As you point out, it's the definition of hypocrisy. Some people are so narrow-minded they can only identify with people like them.

Completely agree. The sexual orientation of a character isn't important. It was the various traits, characteristics and persona of the character that Leto was playing. When he read the script, im sure he saw the transgendered(ness) of his character as a challenge, and fully fell in love with everything about the character.

He was fantastic, anyone who doesn't think so clearly has some sort of issue with seeing an honest portrayal of a misunderstood human being.

In a society that has destroyed all adventure, the only adventure left is to destroy that society.

I think Leto did fine. I don't think he should have won the Oscar, but he did a fine job. Anyone complaining about someone who isn't transgender playing a transgender character must believe that Michael Fassbender should have bought slaves for his role in 12 Years a Slave in order to be authentic, or that the terrorists in United 93 should have really hijacked a plane.

Wait until they get a load of me.

It's just stupidity really. And I was actually very pleased with Jared Leto's performance. I did see his name on here before watching but I completely forgot and didn't realise it was him until I had another look at the credits. The fact that he's straight (or as far as I'm aware) and not transgender takes much more skill as an actor.

hey marc, i see what you're saying but maybe i can help explain why some people in the queer community find this casting problematic.
you say you can't think of many trans actors (famous or not) and you're right i can't think of that many either. And really it should be decided on merit. but you seem to be under a flawed assumption that cis people are by some nature just better actors.

A lot of actors in the trans community really struggle to get roles and when they see a cis-person play a trans person they feel pretty left out. i mean who know more about the emotions and struggles of being trans than someone who is?

i enjoyed leto and and i enjoyed the movie.

hetero-phobic....well i don't hate straight people, some of my best friends are straight people.

'heterophobia' is not a thing.
