DNA in urine??!!

Unless Mr. Smith has a kidney disease or some other illness that would cause him to shed epithelial cells, he will not have any cells of any kind and no DNA in his urine. How many people missed this? The writers, director, producers, everyone on set. And everyone on this board? Oops.

I know your post is years old, but I wanted to reply to it.

Did you ever think that maybe Mr. Brooks is saying that because he is hoping or thinking that Smith didn't know the stuff that you're saying? And that maybe Mr. Brooks thought that Smith was stupid enough to believe it?

Rodents of Unusual Size?...I don't think they exist.

I realize I’m late to the party here, but there absolutely is DNA in urine. There’s not much, but it’s there. See below for a link to a murder that was solved by urine DNA. Also, I’m willing to bet my next month’s salary that OP is not a Doctor.

When I google it today, there are certainly recent papers that say you can use urine and sweat for DNA identification, difficult but possible. Was the DNA technology back in 2007 sophisticated enough to analyse DNA in pure urine? I don't know. But you forget that Dane Cook did not pee straight into a sterile cup to provide a sample. He peed through his day old underwear, dirty jeans, over pubic and leg hair, flaky skin and sweaty socks and shoes. Lots of DNA sources other than pure urine.

Second note, pee is obviously not very "potent"; you can drink it and it does not have much strong effect on you. In the old days, doctors used to taste the patient's urine to detect sugar in order to diagnose diabetes. On the other hand, any substance including urine can be "toxic". Toxicity is a question of how much is too much. For example, if you drink too much clean pure water, you can suffer from "water toxicity" and die. Google it or look it up on Wikipedia.

Urine does contain small amounts of DNA.
Despite rumors and what What Tyler Durden says, urine is not a sterile substance.
It naturally contains bacteria that renders it a nonsterile substance.
