Definitely not Kulich. Kulich is a bread baked in a tall thin mold (you can actually use a well-cleaned "tin" can that veggies, or soup, or something like that comes in) that resembles a domed tower or mushroom. Sweetish and usually has a confectioner's sugar glaze on top. Kournik looks more like what he was eating. I looked it up on the internet (not kurnik that seems to be something else) and found a recipe in English. It has regular pastry dough with thin pancakes on it and separating layers of rice, minced chicken or lamb, and mushrooms and onion, I think. This is covered with another layer of pancakes and a pastry lid shaped like a hill. Pastry "lid" is "vented" decoratively. Often served at Russian weddings.
