Cannot believe this.... absolutely appalling!!!!

I have seen this movie many times since its original airing and I can not digest how those women (either real life or cinema created) could have lived in such filth!!! I mean wouldn't it have occured to them to clean up once in a while?!?!? Good lord!!! They pratcially destoyed their only home and did not give a damn. Even after Jackie O. came and paid for it to be all cleaned up, they still trashed the house again. Geez, give me a break. I know that they were society flowers. But even they could not see that they had wilted beyond repair and please don't get me started on keeping that many cats. The house was not fit for human habitation after that and they still stayed. Both obviously had some mental issues and just sunk further into them as time went on. It's deplorable and revolting. Enough said.

You'll have loads to talk about while you're here.

Get over it - the life my mother gave me was priceless is the quote that appears at the end ... the last word should always belong to Little Eadie.

They are eccentric, after all, aren't they ?

Save our Earth !
Because let's face it;
Mars is too hot, Venus is too cold, and other planets are too far away.

Just remember that these were society women. They had people to clean up after them so they wouldn't mess up their manicured fingers. After the money dissolved, so did the staff. They were in no shape to look after themselves.

The New York Rangers suck. And Sidney Crosby is a cry baby!

They were living in a 28 room property with no staff and a very modest income that barely covered the basics. It seems that at times the power, heat and water was cut off. They had around 30 cats they were looking after. Big Edie was pretty much bed bound and being, so Little Edie had become her full time carer.
Neither of them seemed to have even the basics of home domestics, having had help all their lives. Lets face it, Little Edie's time was put to far better use devising more revolutionary outfits I say!!

reply

I saw them as 2 strong willed but broken women with only themselves to care for each other. They were living in a past dreaming of a future that will never come. The journey from have to have not was probably so gradual they grew use to it without even noticing.

Brilliantly stated....Sadly, I agree with you. Very astute point of view!!

I wonder how accurate the film is to the docu..

Would you classify that as a launch problem or a design problem?-Real Genius

To aurelie_ledoyen:
I wonder how accurate the film is to the docu. The portion of the movie that shows the Edies being filmed by the Maysles is, for the most part, dead on accurate, although some of the things the Edies say are used in different areas. The scene of BE singing Tea for Two is eerily the same as the doc. It's the scenes from the '20s that have some artistic license. I found the HBO sites incredibly interesting, especially the interviews with Michael Sucsy. I don't know why these sites contain different information, but they do. I'm not complaining, there's no such thing as too much information when it comes to GG!

For HBO Canada:

OMG! I can't believe you said that, Lily! It happened to me this week! I heard it in my sleep, when I woke up, I found myself humming it, you name it! And you've heard that this has happened to other people? Maybe it's not just an ear worm. Maybe BE is channelling people. I've heard of folks who say that she channels them. Has anyone else had this happen?

"And you've heard that this has happened to other people?"

lpp,
actually, this has happened to a very special friend of mine and she was adrift on a sea of music and unable to help herself.

i have heard that jerry channels big edie who advises him but i personally don't believe in channeling. i think some people hear voices due to psychiatric disorders and attribute those voices to dead people they barely knew.

That was just like me. I tried listening to other music, reading, watching TV, anything that wasn't related to GG, and it just kept popping back. In fact, a very dear friend of mine sent me an audio CD, and I swear I could hear BE in the background!

Oh, no. I'm being compared to Jerry? Damn. Where's the edit button?? I DON'T believe in channelling, I DON'T believe in channelling, I DON'T believe in channelling. Now click my heels three times, and I should be ok.

OK, I guess I won't be inviting you to my place, then.
