couldn't see anything

OK, aside from basic storyline issues, every poor attempt to "pay homage" to previous films in either names, soundtrack choices, or lines, my biggest complaint is the lighting. I couldn't see crap. The movie was too dark. Not dark in the cool way of emotional tones, but dark as in really, really, bad lighting. I know it was supposed to be dark at times - night time, power failures, rain, etc., but it was to the point of annoying trying to see anything. I'm sure there were great subtleties in creature characteristics or backgrounds, but I got nothing out of it.

I wish they'd just make a movie following some of the comic line. The stories are already written, and for the most part, they're pretty good.

And the fact that all the action scenes were shot in too many close-ups with way too short cuts and a shaky cam...couldn't see *beep*

reply

I thought the exact same thing when I watched it on tv! But when I saw it in the theater, I didn't notice a problem at all. So I have no idea why they made the tv version so much darker. Trying to dull the gore or something? If that was the reason, most scenes still didn't need it.

reply

Yeah i agree,

I just re-watched it again and i don't remember it being that difficult to see in theaters. Viewing it at home was a chore. there were times, were you couldn't tell WTF was going on.

reply

Yeah, it's terrible.

I remember when watching this the first time I was thinking "this might be a reasonably good movie if I could see what the hell is going on". Now I decided to give it another chance, and I have the brightness way up, but that just makes it into a gray blob rather than a black one. Even the scenes that are shot in bright daylight look slightly gloomy, like someone intentionally decided "I need people to see less of this movie", and went ahead and uniformly applied a dusk-ifying filter to the whole thing.

like someone intentionally decided "I need people to see less of this movie"

It's not like someone decided, it's exactly what happened. People should just read the storyboards and use this movie as an audio book, because there's nothing to see here.

im watching it now on tv and its dark. I got the dvd when it came out snd it was atrocious. You cant see anything on either. It sucks cause i missed this in theaters.

I will say this though i have the making of bpok for this film and some of the pictures in the book are dark too.

reply

Wow I came here to see if it was just me that couldn't see a damn thing and kept wondering "Who died? What happened?" 😔

Et quid amabo nisi quod aenigma est...?

reply

I came here to say the same thing. This could of been a whole LOT better if we could SEE what is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe 20th Century fox released it this way.

The film sucks who care's worst alien or predictor film ever it actually made the 1st avp watchable in comparison which takes some extream levle of eneptitude to do that

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

I love the Alien and Predator films. I thought the criticism of AvP 1 was a bit harsh and actually very much enjoyed that one. This film, however, was a disappointment for the simple reason you can hardly friggen see anything. Like most of the comments on here, I too could hardly make out what was going on. I watched it late at night in the dark with adjusted settings to give it the best exposure, but until I read these comments I thought maybe my disk was corrupted or something! The film itself did have some good moments, albeit fleeting, but then like I said I do love the Aliens and Predator films. Shame that seems to be the last of them!

"I saw it on a laptop in SD and it was fine.

It's a dark film with many night scenes, but you can see everything you need to see.

I bet on a big screen it's great.

Liked the cinematography."

LoL -- Yeah... Whatever you say, Director of photography for Alien vs Predator: Requiem.

reply

I thought it was my computer screen. Yeah, waaaay to dark to tell what was going on.

reply

I turned it off after about 30 minutes of watching a black screen with dinosaur noises.
