What the what?? Why is 30 Rock season 7 so terrible? The jokes are totally lame, the characters are nothing but masks of their former selves, and the way the show looks gives it a dream sequence feel. I kept waiting to find out that the first ep in season 7 WAS a dream sequence. It's like the Simpson's now or something. It's nothing but lazy self referencing jokes that are only maybe funny to the people who work on the show. I HATE IT
The first time I viewed Season 6 (when it aired), I watched stone-faced: "WTF?" But upon repeat viewings, I found things that I DID like: the jokes/lines. I conceded that the plots and characters weren't as innovative as they used to be, but those lines and jokes were still pretty amazing.
Haven't seen it in a while, but I remember liking Season 7 for the way they wrapped everything up, and was good for a few more laughs. In no way did it come close to being as disappointing as Season 6.

I have to disagree. I am watching it right now and I am constantly laughing.
People always give last seasons of shows a bad rap. I mean granted some shows spend the entire last season trying to get the show renewed when its to late...
30 Rick was great though during the final season minus Hazel. She was not very funny, she had times but to much crazy that was not likable.
It rapped up everything. Liz got a good man and children (and what better than two kids who she already knows how to raise), Jack realized what he wanted, Kenneth became head of the network. It also got all a bunch of the past characters to come back and give us some sort of closure to what happened to them.

I thought Season 7 was great. A big improvement over Season 6. I'm not saying that Season 6 was bad because it wasn't but the character of Hazel nearly ruined an otherwise good season.
I didn't love season 7 so on first viewing, but I marathoned it again, and I liked it so much. I thought it was just very tightly done with a really nice wrap-up.
Interestingly, I've always liked season 6 a lot more than five... and four... I just thought it moved so swiftly and tightly... then again, I didn't watch it week by week. I watched it in chunks every few months to catch up as it aired. Actually the only episode of season 6 I didn't really like was the finale.
I thought it was the best final season of any show ever. But then I also think it's the best show ever. They wrapped up each character's storyline fearlessly. When Dr. Spaceman becomes Surgeon General? Awesome sauce! Even Hazel was finally used well as the whistle blower. I'm a passenger on the Criss train, but I don't know if his character would have been fun throughout the run of the show. He is her happily ever-after modern prince. My favorite moments in the final season were with Dennis Duffy. The wedding show was great from beginning to end. Aside from Jack, Dennis is my favorite 30 Rock character of all time. So dim-witted and self-assured, he is the perfect counterpoint to the fast-paced and witty writing that exposes neurosis upon neurosis upon weakness. But enough about Beeper King Dennis Duffy, my boyfriend.
Of course, Criss wouldn't have worked through out the run. Because he is a hybrid of most of her serious boyfriends. He'll never be as successful as she is and will always be dependent on her like Dennis. He is handsome like Drew. He shares her interests and finds her eccentricities charming like original Floyd. Plus, he makes her happy like only Floyd did (her episode of just being happy in season 6 was a call back to season 1 when she and Floyd got together and she was smiling in the office). And being emotionally accessible is important to him like Carol.
He could only happen after all of those people. I don't get the Criss hate.
