What do you think is stopping Liz andJack from getting together?

They seem like a great match. I dont buy the whole platonic friends thing. It never works

god. people who want to turn one of the best platonic friendships on television into another generic love story are so boring. but you want to know why jack and liz never dated? they werent attracted to each other sexually or romantically. what other reason could there be? they talked about that all the time. they both knew what they wanted in a significant other and knew that the other was not who they were looking for

or, do you want to know why the 30 rock writers never shoehorned in a love story between jack and liz? also a simple answer. 30 rock is not a romantic comedy, it is a sitcom about working in an office. none of the main 5 ever dated, nor should they have. their relationship arcs were secondary because thats just not what the show was about. tina fey has actually talked about this before. she said that for her adult life, most of the relationships shes had had been business relationships with people she worked with, so thats what she wanted to write a show about. there was no reason to force an unneeded love story in.

honestly its really pretty easy to figure out. not everything needs a love story. i dont know why people think that. im a girl and i have some very close, extremely platonic friendships with boys. my best friends are mostly boys. one of the things i love about 30 rock is the relationship between jack and liz, because i can relate to it and its not something you see often. stop trying to simplify interesting relationships into boring tropes.

Then how do you explain the fact that Liz was always "erect" when she was in Jack's office?

reply

Haha. There is a bit of chemistry between Tina and Alec, but between Liz and Jack I don't see it. He views her as a boy and she views him as a somewhat deranged uncle. I've had a working relationship like that (I was the boy...) so I can relate.

The mirror... it's broken.
Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

I'm very glad they didn't get together. But I think it's completely wrong to say there was no sexual chemistry.

There were hints of it several times. Early on when Liz wasn't sure if they were going on a date (and wasn't turned off at the idea of it). When Jennifer Aniston wanted a threesome and Jack was for it. Jack's total over investment in her love life by the time Criss came around.

I think they did something more mature than what people who say there was no interest there are claiming. I think the show portrayed two people who were somewhat sexually attracted to each other and who satisfied a lot of each other's emotional needs. And, yeah, they could have gotten together but they made a conscious decision not to ruin what they had.

Guess who has two thumbs, speaks limited French, and hasn't cried once today? This moi.
