Dane has slightly large and ungainly facial features, and when combined with that hair her face didn't match at all. Looked like a bad wig, and unnatural. I was a bit disappointed. Expected more from a 'star'. The Victoria character was a lot more naturally beautiful. Dane does have that doe-eye look though, which conveyed the star's purity and innocence, so I'll give her credit for that.
I thought she was great. I was shocked when I found out she was American as her English accent was spot on (I'm English btw). Especially the part where she "tells" Dishwater Sal that she smells of pee

she looked like a gwyneth paltrow drag queen. i guess paltrow wouldve been slightly too old for the role, but i think she'd have been a much better fit.
"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".
ITA. dont get me wrong, i think danes is pretty, but sienna would have fitted the role of the star much much better. i'm not too keen on the guy playing tristan either. i think barnes (who played his father's younger self) would have been better as the lead. although barnes is not a very good actor so i understand why he didnt get the lead
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I don't think Sienna is anything spectacular to look at. She's attractive, but I wouldn't be able to pick her out in a lineup of other tanned, blonde, Barbie-esque actresses. And I can't see Sienna as exuding the type of grace and sophistication that Claire Danes evoked as Yvaine. I thought she was wonderful for the role and has an unconventional beauty (in terms of Hollywood, since I'd kill to look like Claire Danes) that makes you look twice. Her features might not be delicate, but they're intelligent and arresting and certainly not average, which is what I consider Sienna Miller. Also, Claire Danes is a much better actress IMO. I can't speak for the accent since I'm from California, but she was intelligent, strong and loveable as Yvaine.
I agree mostly, I normally aren't attracted to thin women that lack breasts and ass but I found her beautiful in this movie and not just the way she looked, there was something else about her that was special. Very interesting character.
i know this thread goes back a bit but i have to say i think she's fabulous and very good in the role; i thought her acting was excellent and her accent as many have commented was just about perfect
i really dont know where the adverse comments come from i really dont and as for"large and ungainly features" -so she was a kinda quazimodo type looker?!-your having a laugh pal-she was and is gorgeous
I normally really like Claire Danes but in this movie she struck me as being a very poor casting choice. I'm not talking superficially, like how she appears as a blonde or things like that, but she didn't seem able to deliver the character's personality or any of her lines convincingly. It's like she was straining herself to build up enough sarcasm for the puns and enough charisma for the elegant side - as a person she seems too much of an ordinary nice girl and lacks the edges. I wished they'd cast someone like Keira Knightley, who can be both innocent and razor-sharp, and both at once when needed.
Claire Dane has one facial expression, she looks at the same time aggressive and surprised. It never changes. Perhaps she cant change her face. Sienna Miller would have been a better Yvaine.
Exactly. I guess she uses it to camouflage her acting disabilities. She´s able to play half convincingly only mad women. She has no subtleties, no finesse.
I'm willing to lay the blame for the lack of tension in this movie solely on director Matthew Vaughn. Starting from a terrific story with a stellar cast and high budget special effects, he managed to make a movie with too many "meh" moments. I won't recommend this to anyone.
